Violence and the 2010 Olympics 0

The 2010 Winter Olympics are underway, and citizens of the world are indulged in the spirit of patriotism and hope for their nation’s athletes. Canadians from far and wide have been purchasing those snuggly red Olympic mittens to warm their hands and hearts with the excitement of hosting an event as prestigious as the games. But underneath the tradition and energy of the Olympic events lies a path of destruction. The IOC has developed a reputation for plundering every city they enter, generat...

    Simply Incredible 0

Action adventure games; they're a dime a dozen.  They've been a staple since the dawn of videogames.  God of War takes all the lessons learned from the great action adventure games and combines them to create one of the best games ever to grace a console.  The game does not offer much in terms of innovation, but it simply does everything to perfection.  As the title would lead you to believe, this game is based in Greek mythology.  Surprisingly few games have taken advantage of the depth of...

The mythical and the visceral forging a violent spectacle of rage 0

God of War is a most barbarous take on the same sort of stylish action Devil May Cry pioneered. Opening with a sensational battle against one of myth’s fascinating creatures, the Hydra, the game immediately illustrates the kind of journey it has in store. Finding strength in the brutality of its animation, grit in its acoustics, and awe in its aesthetics, it is a complete experience. From its alpha to its omega, God of War is an exceptionally produced epic. The story follows Kratos, a man t...

God of War is a Good Game. 3

God of war is a game designed by David Jaffe in 2005. It is the beginning of the God of War franchise which also includes God of War two and God of war Chains of Olympus. It is an action adventure game that includes a lot of fast action game play and much button mashing. God of War has 4 difficulty levels, Mortal (easy), Hero (normal), Spartan (hard) and God (very hard). God of war is set in the heart of Greek mythology, where the Greek gods dominate the lands. You play as Kratos, a massive Spa...

A fantastic action game, worthy of it's title. 0

The best way I think I can describe how fun God of War is, is this way: You know when you're playing a game, and your really should stop, so you say to yourself "I'll stop at the next save point." Then you get to the save point, and you say "Well, maybe one more save point." but deep down you know you really mean two more. That's this game. The presentation of this game is top notch. Usually I find cut scenes get in the way, and I hope that they're short. The style of the cinematics in this gam...

God of War should be a good movie and GOW III should be awesome! 1

Where do I begin? God of War is a unique take on action-adventure games as it integrates simple but effective combat with a powerful story of redemption. The variety of creatures from Greek mythos (e.g. the minotaur, medusa...) really makes the game enjoyable as it keeps each area fresh. The graphics are pretty impressive as well for the Playstation 2 system. Furthermore, the puzzles are clever to the point of being interesting and possible without you having to throw your controller at the TV. ...

God of War was a seriously fun Hack and Slasher. 0

I loved God of War, it was a short experience, but I'm kinda glad it was. The story was great, the graphics were impressive, and they took a boring hack and slasher game and turned it into a fun puzzle solving platformer. Overall it wasn't the most original game ever made, but I was still pretty impressed by it. A few things about this game that doesn't warrant it a 9.0 or higher for me. For one, Video Game Nudity, why was this put into this game? Everything seemed so classy about this game unt...

    Flashy Production, shallow substance 1

This game has got some of the highest production values ever to grace the PS2. The music is great, the graphics are great, the architecture is great, and all these things work together really seamlessly. So as an audio/visual experience God of War is a real treat. The biggest downfall is the part where God of War is supposed to be a GAME. Where you make a difference in how the game pans out. God of War gives you just about as little choices as is possible in todays gaming world. On top of this,...

    A review from 2005 0

This review was originally written by me for another (now defunct) gaming site.   It has not been altered from its original 2005 verbiage, including the screen-shots.   ---------------------- The PS2 has been around since 2000, and it finally has a killer app.   Sure, there have been lots of good games like Rez and Final Fantasy X, but thus far the PS2 has been missing a flagship title, something that the system will truly be remembered for.   Remember how the Genesis had Altered Beast, Golden...

Best game for the PS2 0

God of war has it all. A great story, Graphics, and Game play. The story feels like it from a Hollywood movie. It starts at the top of tallest mountain in Greece with Kratos stand at the edge of the cliff. Kratos says “the gods of Olympias has abandoned him. Kratos walked off mountain falling to death. Just before he hit the water the game flashback three weeks earlier and you start the game. That scene makes me want to play the game nonstop until the end to find out what happen. I will not tell...

2010 Review: God of war Collection 0

I have to make something clear as I'm writing this review in the year 2010 where HD graphics are the rage and the best ever action adventure game was Uncharted 2. So it's easy to say that this game is old and out dated but I had a lot of fun playing it but there where some not so fun parts in there too. Although I never played the game till now I was aware of it's existence the problem was I never had a ps2 and at that time I had an xbox and was a not so avid gamer that I'm now. I always wanted ...

God of War holds up magnificently a half decade later and remains 0

As I pass through the archway, flags billowing in the ash and ember that congests the air, I wonder what great scene of amazement will next assault my senses. No manner of visual splendor previously attained could have prepared me for what I see now. In the distance a towering giant, a lone God of War, battles against thousands of hopeless Athenian soldiers. I stare in awe, my mind reeling from the vista laid before me. Now this is a video game. These thoughts, or some similar, most likely passed...

Great game, tons of fun, long lasting story. 0

Let's start off by saying, the God of War series is one of the main reasons I went PS3 over XBOX 360. And it delivers in every way! The game play in God of War is hands down the best mix of fun, puzzles, story, and difficulty I have ever played in any action game. It is strategic at times while just plain hack-n-slash at others. Sometimes you can just cut loose and maul down hordes of minions without a second thought to what is going on around you, and other times you have to plan out the...

    God-like 0

God of War 1 & 2 are often considered to be the last truly amazing games to be released for the Playstation 2, pushing the system to its very limits and providing plenty of jaw-dropping moments that seem like they'd be more at home on the silver screen. Providing a gameplay experience akin to that of Devil May Cry and Ninja Gaiden, God of War is a must have for anyone who considers themselves a fan of the Hack and Slash Action genre. With truly addictive gameplay, stunning graphics and crisp...

Great, but a bit overrated and easily the worst of the series 0

Upon the release of the original God of War, it was met with massive critical acclaim, but was it justified? God of War was released very late in the Playstation 2’s lifetime and in some ways, definitely feels like one of those late cycle console games that pushes a system, though not in the same way as its sequel that would arrive two years later. The game begins with the main character Kratos, seemingly somber, jumping off a cliff to his death. It’s at this point that the game flashes back to t...

The Birth of the killing machine who killed a god. 0

The spartan warrior Kratos is being plagued by memories tied into his violent past. Unable to cope with them, he hurls himself off a cliff towards the jagged rocks in the ocean. The narrative shifts back three weeks, retelling the events that had taken place in the life of the fallen warrior. -summaryGod of War is among the last truly great games for the PS2, and I still remember the buzz circulating amongst fellow hardcore gamers spreading the love on their beloved masterpiece. The way this gam...

They don't make them like this anymore. 0

It's really interesting to play old games for the first time, I can never tell if the game is actually hard or if the gameplay just doesn't translate to modern game sensibilities.I was surprised by the tactical thinking that was required in some sections of this game; so many times I would charge in swinging and get my ass handed to me, then come back with a focused plan and beat the same encounter easily.I've never said fuck so many times while playing a game before, I probably cursed more whil...

Fun, except for the puzzles 2

This game maybe would  deserve 5 stars if the game designers weren't evil sadistic bastards. For some reason, they interrupt enjoyable action and platforming with mind bogglingly stupid puzzles. Some of which require pinpoint controller accuracy and timing. This is a problem because the controls are clunky at best. Sometimes you'll make that ledge jump, sometimes you wont. Great, now design a puzzle the requires you to position a box just right, requiring a perfect jump or fucking spikes will co...

God of War is brutal fun 0

The immediate words that spring to mind when I think about God of War are fun, gory, brutal and still incredibly impressive. As a latecomer to the God of War party I must admit that the last point came as a huge surprise to me. God of War is a third person action game (comparable to the Devil May Cry or Ninja Gaiden games) that came out in 2005 for the Playstation 2. It takes place in the world of ancient Greek legends and as such has a wealth of material to draw upon for its epic action. The ...

    God of War 0

I can't tell if my opinion was affected by the tons of praise this got. It's definitely a good game. But I really can't see how it deserves PS2 Game of the Year over Shadow of the Colossus, Resident Evil 4 and Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones. Or in the case of awards givers who cut off holiday games until the next year, how it's better than Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal. Anyway, God of War is a fun game. The combat is very fluid and rewarding, as you prog...

God of War is an action/adventure game of the highest caliber 0

The success of God of War lies in its cinematic presentation. As you play the game, you will gradually feel like you've taken on a grand adventure within Greek mythology. Gameplay - The gameplay in God of War is quite well done. The combat mechanics are varied and keep you on your toes. However, this is not an action game with the depth of something like Ninja Gaiden. Also, the basic cutting mechanic lacks a visceral quality so crucial to hack-n-slash games. Nonetheless, the other combat motio...

#4 On My Top 50 Games Of All Time. It's That Good 0

Special games are rare; the kind of game that grips you from the start and doesn't let go; the kind of game that you never thought was possible on the system you are playing it on; the kind of game that you can't stop talking about, even to your friends who don't care one bit about the games you play. God of War is one of those games. It is by no means perfect, but as gaming experiences go, this is up there with the best of them.God of War is actually a very simple game. You could simply call it...

This game has it all: action, fights, gruesome details (blood splater and gore), fan service for the guys and a heck of an unforgetable plot / story. Ok the main character is just such an awsome badass... top 10 best action heroes up until today. Don´t mine that it´s an aventure game... it´s also packed with action around every corner and clever yet not imposible puzzle solving. I'm going to keep this one short, but to the point.God of War is simply one amazing, spectacular game! The cut scenes are smooth and great and the gameplay is superb. The graphics are amazing for a PlayStation 2 game. It almost seems to be next gen. This game has everything you want and expect out of a action/adventure game. As Kratos, your main objective is to save the city of Athens by defeating and killing Ares, the God of War. However, to get there, you must battle your way through ancient G...

The Reason Why I Broke Down and Bought a PS2 0

I'll be honest, I wasn't a very big console gamer for a large part of my life.  I used to live and breath PC games.  I had a Nintendo and a Dreamcast, both of which I got for free.  I have a ton of friends that had the PS2 and the bajillion games that the system had.  They were all just "meh" to me.  Some neat stuff here and there, GT3, GT4, Sly Cooper...  Stuff that I would've played had I borrowed someone's PS2, but I was still hesitant to buy one.  Then this game came along and stole 3 weeks ...

God of War takes place in mythological Greece and you play as Kratos, an antihero of sorts who is a brutal and vicious general of the Spartan army. God of War Review. 0

In God of War you play as Kratos; a bad ass guy who, to get rid of his sins, has to defeat Ares. So you go to Athens and fight many Greek monsters that appear in mythology. God of War is a brilliant game. They have made all the gaming features equal. For example the puzzles aren't easier than the gameplay etc. It's all the same. Also it isn't too hard/ too easy which is a perfect combo. There is blood in the game and nudity but its all cool. The beat-'em-up feature is great. You can do combo tha...

One of the best games of the PS2 era 1

There are few games that I have played that have had me captivated from the first time I picked up the controller and all the way through to the end. Those few games that have done this for me include Metal Gear Solid, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and this game...God Of War. From the first time that I took the blades of chaos and started becoming a killing machine I had a blast. And it was easy to pull off all the different moves. This is a game that anyone can learn, because you can either butt...

Come Along and Kick Ass with Kratos! 0

"Holy ****, this game kicks ***!" will likely be the first thing that comes out of your mouth when you pop God of War in your Playstation 2. The first game in the premiere franchise, GoW casts you in the role of Kratos, a Spartan warrior on a mission of vengeance against the war god Ares. Kratos is your stereotypical sort of anti-hero. He's big, scowly, unforgiving, and is only out to kill Ares for his own selfish reasons. It just happens that the gods want Ares dead, too, so Kratos agrees to he...
