Goodsprings is the starting location for the Courier in Fallout: New Vegas in the Mojave Wasteland in 2281. After Victor rescues the shot-in-the-head Courier, he brings him/her to Doc Mitchell to get patched up before being released back into the wild.

    Ghost Town Gunfight

After conversing with the inhabitants of Goodsprings, namely Joe Cobb, Trudy, and Ringo, you will start the sidequest called "Ghost Town Firefight." You will soon find out that the Powder Gangers are gearing up to attack Goodsprings and clean it dry. Your objective is to successfully complete a number of skill checks with the locals of Goodsprings to amass a small army. Another option for the Courier is to turn your back on the town that saved you and help the Powder Gangers raid the small town. Doing that will have "Ghost Town Firefight" fail, and start the sidequest "Run, Goodsprings, Run," where the Courier can convince Doc Mitchell to help a hurt traveler down the road and have Chet fork over some supplies before the massacre begins.

Doc Mitchell's house is the location where the player starts out in Fallout: New Vegas. The house is owned by Mitchell and is where the player can go to be healed from radiation or injuries, as well as to buy medical supplies. The player can take any items from Doc Mitchell's house with no negative karma. This is great way to pick up a few caps early on, as most of the loot from here is junk and can be sold on.

Also inside the shack is a Stealth Boy that can sometimes be found in one of the ammo boxes. For beginning players, the shack can act as a small safehouse, as the items placed inside containers do not respawn and can be used for storage. This is also a good place to pick up scrap metal, which can be sold on later in the game for a good amount of caps.
