Founded in 1995, GSC Game World was a private company that released a range of games from 2001 to 2009. These include, but are not limited to, Cossacks: European Wars, Cossacks: Art Of War, Cossacks: Back To War, Cossacks II: Napoleonic Wars and then S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow Of Chernobyl which they worked on for seven years before it was released. Most games developed and released by GSC Game World before 2004 were published in Europe by CDV Software Entertainment.In 2004, GSC Games World founded the publishing branch GSC World Publishing which has now been publishing some of GSC Game World's releases. The studio was shut down on December 9, 2011 following a staff meeting with owner Sergei Grigorovich.
The X-Ray Engine
The X-Ray engine was developed for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow Of Chernobyl by GSC Game World and is a powerful engine, utilizing ground breaking visuals. The X-Ray Engine has been in huge development over the past years and has been putting some real impressive visuals on the table every time they show of a upgraded version of the engine.
Developer Rights
In 2007, GSC acquired the rights to make games for the Xbox 360. Apparently some rumors have it that they now also have permission to make games for the PS3. In September 2009, GSC announced that they will port the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series to console.
