So when Guild Wars 2 is finally released what race will your first character be?
- Human
- Asura
- Norn
- Charr
- Sylvari
Also what class are you planning to choose first (I realize not all have been released, but of what you believe will be in the game)?
- Elementalist
- Warrior
- Ranger
- Necromancer
- Mesmer
- Thief
- Guardian
-????
Personally I can already tell you Elementalist with out a doubt will be my class. That was my first character in Guild Wars back in 2005 and it will be my first in GW2. Now the race is what I am not sure of yet. I feel I should do a human again, but then again I loved the Norn in Eye of the North. So I am starting to lean towards them.
Guild Wars 2
Game » consists of 3 releases. Released Aug 28, 2012
Guild Wars 2 is an online RPG developed by ArenaNet, and continues the subscriptionless business model of the original Guild Wars. The game is set about 250 years after the events of its predecessor in a world devastated by the ancient elder dragons resurfacing after millennia of slumber.
What Race/Class are you Leaning Towards?
Human or Sylvari (I like my humane-looking Avatar). Unsure about classes, but I normally gun for elemental or an assassin. Seeing how this might break down the tank-dps-healer structure in most typical MMOs; maybe I can actually do something productive than just going for a class I like but never doing a proper job at it. =P
Human Elementalist and Charr Warrior for now, but will have to see how the rest of the races and classes play out.
So far, I'm leaning towards the Elementalist. I didn't play much of one in the original GW, so I wanna try that out. I don't know what race I like yet, I'm gonna need to wait till they talk more about their unique talents. As for the professions that haven't been announced, the developers have already stated there will be no Monk class. According to the demo shown at Gamescom and PAX, they are four unannounced professions, I think one will be Assassin, the other Dervish and two brand new classes.

There's one more "soldier" class to be revealed, and that, whatever it is, would certainly fit the bill. It does look a bit like a warrior, but then every profession has a certain colour associated to it; Warrior purple, Ranger light green, Necro dark green, Mesmer purple. So that would suggest that that piece of art isn't a Warrior.
In GW1 you didn't see many Mesmers in high level areas, but I think people enjoyed playing them, mainly because you could turn someone into their own worst enemy. If they can keep the core of that in the class but re-invent it to some extent, as they've done with the necro, I see no reason for it to be left out.
Human elementalist!!!! I just want to be able to wear pants and have a beard...
@Tearhead: They said there would be no healing specific class. Who knows, maybe they'll reinvent the Monk class into something cool. I'd like to be able to punch and kick stuff...
Human Warrior, no doubt about it. Love melee classes in RPGs and such, and my first GW character was a Warrior.
The three class that I want to make (in order) are. Sylvari/Necromancer, Charr/Warrior and Norn/Ranger. But thats just me. What do you guys think of it?
We don't know all the classes yet, so it's a bit early to say. Assassin is a shoe in at this point and Mesmer is all but confirmed, but we know there's no Monk / dedicated support class and it's anyones guess what the other two are.
Also worth pointing out the Slyvari are currently being redesigned.. No one was much too happy with them basically being young looking humans that were a bit green.
But so far, I'm leaning towards a Noble, human, ranger.
" Human Mesmer. Oh it will be in, it will be in... "In there blog today they showed an image compaing a female mesmer to a redesigned female with very similar clothing. I highly doubt it won't return to GW2, plus it is a very unique class no other MMO really has it.
I still haven't seen a class that makes me go "WOAH I NEED TO PLAY THAT!" - the closest so far has been Guardian, but I'm worried about how much damage they can do. I'd assume on the lower end of the scale.
As such, I'll prob end up playing Human Guardian, Sylvari Elementalist, Norn or Asura Assassin (whichever looks more cool / hilarious), Human Gunner class (I'm betting #8 will be a gunner. No one even uses pistols of the 5 professions announced!)
Yeah, my guess is mesmer and gunner. (The one of the far left in the professions pic is a charr with a bfg and on the right of the warrior is a mes)" We now know the thief is a class, so now only two remain and it is predicted one will be the mesmer. "
Looking at how they handled guns with the thief though.. I'm not sure how much I'd like the gunner. Then again, if they gave the gunner skills that emulate stopping power - like give him push back or even knock down - then I may well be there.
I absolutely love my necro in the first one, so I'm thinking either that, or maybe a thief. The videos that keep coming out about it look pretty awesome.
Also, I'm probably gonna play Asura, I miss the tiny-yet-powerful feeling I got out of my Gnome mage. Everything is subject to change as we near the release though, I could switch and end up playing a Sylvari ranger or something, it's all about what I'm feeling when I hit the character creation screen.
I'll probably only use a Human and I'll try all the classes, after a few months I'll gravitate to which ever class has the most bitchin' armour. Probably warrior. Although I didn't realize there were so many classes announced and I also don't know what the hell a Guardian is. Is it like a more tank-y warrior? That's what it sounds like to me.
Edit: After looking at the GW2 wiki I see that Guardians are Warriors with protection spells and they wear heavy armour. That sounds pretty awesome. I'll probably start with that.
Also I have been looking more at the races and now i am leaning towards Asura, mostly just for the fact that your "home base" is a GIANT floating cube in the sky.
I was going to originally be a Human/Warrior for my main like in the first game but well... as the professions were revealed, I started having trouble deciding what I would prefer >_<
I'll still be a human first but I'm unsure of what profession I'll be. I'm leaning towards Elementilist or Ranger.
Still I'll have one of each race and one of each profession.... eventually
