Halo Reach $200 Million Day 1 Openning
" @KaosAngel said:What about just on the 360? What site would you use to look this stuff up...?" Avatar did more. :| Joking aside, is that more or less than MW2? "A lot less. "
That's ~ 3 million sales. MW2 was initially reported as 7 million day one, but I don't know whether that turned out to be accurate or not.
What the guy in the article does say that's interesting- and what I believe he is entirely correct about - is that this shows that gamers haven't gone anywhere. The market is down simply because there aren't enough good games around at the moment to satisfy the market. That's good news in the sense that the industry doesn't need to panic over how far down sales are on last year, they just need to make more good games and the sales ought to recover.
Most info readily available says MW2 sold 3.2 million in NA on 360 in the first week and 1.6 million on the PS3 in the first week. So if Reach sold 3 million in a day, I'd say it's a far assumption that it'll surpass MW2's 3.2 million one week sales on 360. MW2 has 11.5 million in total sales at this point, and if Reach performs as well as Halo 3 did, which can be assumed as Halo 3 had 2.8 million sold in NA in the first week, it will come close to matching MW2 in combined sales on 360/PS3 once everything is said and done.
If most of these stats are to be believed, Reach is doing very well for itself, especially considering the fact that it's a console exclusive.
Yay, money! T_T I'm more interested in UNITS that were shipped and/or sold rather than the money.
The money side of this can be incredibly skewed, simply because there are three different editions of the game. The same can be said for Modern Warfare 2.
Therefore, give me the number of units shipped for both and I'll be more impressed if MW2 surpasses Halo: Reach, especially in week 1 sales. Day 1 means nothing to me.
Also, Halo: Reach is only available on one console, while MW2 was multi-platform. Needless to say, $200 million worth of units is fucking impressive.
Who cares who sold more. $200 million worth is still damn good. I did the math and it comes out to 3,333,333.33333333333333 copies sold. Maybe now Microsoft can get off of the pirates asses because they are still money off of their games. They should also get off of the used games industry ass because they sold a shit load of games on day one.
