" the art direction could've been so much better. I thought reach was an enormous industrial complex planet with fallen frigates and acid rain.... and now it's just some mountains and pine trees and... sigh. "I could not agree more. Le sigh. Bungie = one hit wonder.
Halo: Reach
Game » consists of 13 releases. Released Sep 14, 2010
A prequel to Halo: Combat Evolved, chronicling one of the most cataclysmic events of the Halo Universe through the eyes of a squad of Spartan super-soldiers known as Noble Team. It is also the last game in the series developed by Bungie.
Hey, Here Are Some Halo: Reach Screenshots
@BiffMcBlumpkin: Looks more like Walken to me.
" The Halo 3 engine is showing its age. "No. If you can't appreciate those textures, then I can not help you, sir. And remember, Halo's levels are usually pretty huge. When you have to render the crazy amounts of particle effects, enemy a.i., vehicles, and all the other action that's typically on-screen in a Halo game, it's amazing Reach could even look this good. This is also a brand new engine if I'm not mistaken. At the very least, it's a massively overhauled version of the Halo 3's.
I think the game looks great, based only on these alpha-build screenshots, but to me Halo has always been about the gameplay. I enjoy the graphics in the Halo games, but mainly from an artistic perspective, it's the unique pacing and feel that makes me love the main trilogy(ODST had it's moments, but it's not the same caliber) . The way the vehicle, firearm, and melee systems are combined in every combat scenario is still unmatched in any other first-person shooter; nothing else feels like Halo.
I digress. The main point I was trying to make is that the graphical quality of the Halo games can't be directly compared to most other shooter franchises, because of the way each level is constructed. They're huge, largely unscripted, and rarely linear. There's a lot of stuff the engine is rendering at all-times, and it's totally unrealistic to expect Halo Reach to look like Killzone 2 or even Modern Warfare 2. This may be a personal preference kind of thing, but I think the franchise's art-style more than makes up for the graphical limitations.
This is what is "bending" the limits of the 360? Wow pathetic!
I would suggest humbly that Bungie not make statements like 'Reach is bending the Xbox as far as it can bend.'
Because it does them a disservice, makes them looks like they don't know how to make an engine.
There are plenty of games that look leagues than Halo 3, ODST, and now the current state of Reach.
Take your pick, gobs of better looking games. However Bungie does make a hell of an AI model and tight gameplay with an ever stable frame rate to back it.
I'll definitely be picking up Reach despite my harsh attitude towards Bungies hubris.
I wonder if I'll be able to crank up the difficulty to hard mode and then play with my eyes closed like the other Halo games. I thought the games were fun as long as you had another person to play with, but what is it about Halo that attracts this much attention?
Give me more Halo, please, with a dash of Halo.
Very excited. I couldn't care any less about the "graphics-aren't-groundbreaking" argument or the "Halo-is-stale-and-a-milked-franchise" discussion. Halo is a high quality product. And more of a high quality product is more of a good thing, for me.
These pictures are pretty bad, I'll be honest. And that's coming from a big Halo fan. I just hope the beta doesn't disappoint
"Halo: Republic Commando.
ALL SPARTANS. Srsly, if it plays anything like Republic Commando then I am already infinitely more interested in this than I have been any previous Halo game. "
Republic Commando was the best star wars game I've played cept for Knights of the old republic. It had one of the best and sad stories.
The game looks slightly better than ODST, which, in turn, looked slightly better than H3. I have the feeling that the 360 has already peaked in the graphics department. I'm eager to see how Gears 3 will look.
How can you people not be happy with the visuals? They look great to me. They Do look quite abit better than Halo 3 which in many ways looked very nice, so I am happy.
Also this is 4 year old tech on the 360, they are pushing it pretty far and it is impressive, I just hope this game feels fresh. I hope it is more brutal and I hope that the story hits you hard. This is Reach we do not win, alot of people die and I want to see some sacrifice.
dude. when are they going to make a RC sequel. that game was cool." Halo: Republic Commando.
ALL SPARTANS. Srsly, if it plays anything like Republic Commando then I am already infinitely more interested in this than I have been any previous Halo game. "
anyways, the game looks washed out and too bloomy. are they using the Unreal engine? seriously man, blurrrrryyy and bloooomy looking.
shit looks like power rangers btw.
I havent played too much of Halo over the years. But I think the visual style of Reach looks a lot different than the previous Halo games.
