The silent protagonist of The Ball, the Archaeologist finds himself lost underground in an ancient Aztec city, where he is marauded by giant insects, re-animated mummies, and all manner of other horrible wildlife, and his only friend, companion, and weapon is the mysterious artifact known as 'the Ball'.

A silent protagonist in The Ball, the Archaeologist is never actually referred to by name. He was given the name "Harchier Spebbington" when he made a non-canon cameo as a playable character in the zombie shooter Killing Floor, a "promotional character" added to the game shortly after the release of The Ball.
