Hatred is an isometric shooter with disturbing atmosphere of mass killing, where player takes the role of a cold blood antagonist, who is full of hatred for humanity. The question you may ask is: why do they do this? These days, when a lot of games are heading to be polite, colorful, politically correct and trying to be some kind of higher art, rather than just an entertainment – we wanted to create something against trends. Something different, something that could give the player a pure, gaming pleasure. Herecomes our game, which takes no prisoners and makes no excuses. We say ‘yes, it is a game about killing people’ and the only reason of the antagonist doing that sick stuff is his deep-rooted hatred. Player has to ask himself what can push any human being to mass-murder. We provoke this question using new Unreal Engine 4, pushing its physics (or rather PhysX) systems to the limits and trying to make the visuals as good as possible. It's not a simple task, because of the game's non-linear structure and a lot of characters on the screen. But here at Destructive Creations, we are an experienced team and we know how to handle the challenge!

It looks like an isometric twin stick shooter type of deal but they sure went into some dark territory with the subject matter. Do we have a new Postal on our hands?

It's good to see video games embrace a cheerier tone.

Seems heavily inspired by the original Postal and thus looks appropriately bad.

That's some cringe-worthy angst though; Is it possible this was entirely developed by 13 year olds?

It's funny how they claim they are doing something different while doing exactly what have been done countless times, just with a slightly sicker tone.

I like stupid violence. Peter Jackson's Bad Taste is one of my favorite movie ever. This seems just childish and unaware.

Looks like it could be a fun twin stick shooter. I like the look of some of that environmental destruction as well. But wow... the tone here is something else. Super-angst to the max. Hope they creators weren't actually going for a serious tone here, because it comes off as totally laughable to me. This feels like they are doing for extreme shock value. Pretty gross.

I hope it wasn't intentional, but the choice of victims for the up-close finishers are disturbing as hell.

So this is basically the original Postal, minus the part where it is horrifying and not an edgy game from the mind of an A7X fan?

Judging by the youtube comments, the trailer really struck a chord with edgy teenagers, which is really all they could hope for. Although if the whole game is written like the trailer it might have some unintentional comedy value.

I'm going to buck the trend of the thread and say the developers of this game are probably fully aware of how cringe-y their angst filled PC sounds and probably decided to do it that way as a choice.

Watching this trailer I can't help but think of Bill Murray in Scrooged.

I think the tone is interesting and love that it takes itself that seriously. However regardless of how entertaining the tone of the game is, with this kind of thing, it seems obvious to me that the KEY element which makes this game fun for more than 15min should be gameplay. The angle seems to be hotline miami with better graphics and darker tone, but doing what HM did is no easy task.

@gamefreak9: The Hotline Miami comparison is an interesting one. Although from the trailer it seems you're killing way more unarmed civilians than armed gangsters.

It's funny, 'cause you can technically do all the same things in GTA games, but this is....different.

I honestly believe everyone has a right to free agency and can do (or play in this case) what ever he or she wants...but for me personally this is just too much. Can't speak for anyone else though.

Man Bites Dog the game? It'd be interesting if they actually do some social commentary with this but the trailer makes it look like you're just mowing random people down for no reason.

This looks supremely dumb.

The tone is way way more aggressive about being squarely focused on murdering innocent people. Yes, that's a thing that happens in GTA and something that you can do but its usually a consequence of them being collateral damage. I think the tone is what I find most disturbing. Its very blatant and up front about the mass killing of innocents.

I find this rather disgusting. I think there is value in the exploration of the dark psyche behind mass shootings within media, however I do not think this is the way.

I am all for free speech and I think its fine to let some ignorant jackasses make this game. I just hope no one gives them money to do it.

@brownsfantb: If this turns out to be some kind clever subversion of expectations or social commentary I will give it massive props for playing it this straight.

We'll have to wait and see. It would be unwise to pass judgement based on this little information.

Video games have finally found their video nasty equivalent. I don't think this will be a very good game.

I think the decision to make this a straight faced massacre simulator is what sets it apart from another media with violence. films, TV, most games, frame the violence in a contextualised narrative. (Even if that narrative just boils down to "Nazis bad, crime doesn't pay" sometimes) this is just death porn. It's that distinction that makes some violent films well received, but Snuff Films illegal. That whole trailer was just awful.

So...it's Postal but starring Jackie from The Darkness? Great, because that's what the world needs.

While I found that disturbing, I can't help but feel I'm being somewhat of a hypocrite for taking issue with it. I've happily toyed with and ended the lives of civilians in plenty of games, yet this still seems wrong. That doesn't mean I wouldn't play it though, which again, brings up my own offence-taking hypocrisy. Vinny's tweet about the person you are and the person you think you are not liking each other didn't make sense to me until now.

Because this is what games need right now. A reason for everyone to get up in arms about how violent games and gamers are. Plus great job devs, of the shooting women in the face as they beg for their lives. Real brilliant time to pull that shit out. This is probably going to cause a huge media frenzy.

I'm all for playing the role of an unredeemable scumbag in videogames, I hate that everyone we play as needs to be relatable in one way or another. Still this just looks kind of pointless and the qoute from the developers is hilarious on so many levels.
