An interactive thriller from the studio behind Indigo Prophecy, sporting a dark storyline involving the investigation of a mysterious serial killer.
A Procedural Downpour: Heavy Rain Hands-On
"This for PS3... Alan Wake for X360, she's shaping up to be a stellar year for story telling! This could in fact be that turning point in the culture which see's games begin to out perform feature films. It will happen.... just a matter of when.?.. "
I read a really good article on films and games a while back, possibly on Giantbomb. I'll try and find it. Basically, they said that films will always outsell videogames and always be different to videogames. They'll always exist together and videogames won't take over movies, because of different tastes and the fact theres gaming moods and film moods. Im in a film mood at the moment and haven't picked up my controller in a while.
" For about the first hour or so, if it weren't interactive, and the characters weren't polygonal, Heavy Rain could pass for a serious and intense modern-day police drama"
I hope this is actually true, but judging from some videos it seems like the dialogue is really bad. I'd still probably enjoy it, since Fahrenheit's story was retarded but I still love that game. Here's hoping there's no stealth sequences in this game as well, since the control scheme sounds awkward as hell.
its a fuck load of fucktastic awesomeness what Uncharted 2, Modern Warfare 2, Metal Gear Solid 4 are doing (making video games closer to a movie experience) but they're still video-gamey. 3rd person gameplay mechanics and whatnot.
the truest, purest form right now closest to a straight up interactive movie is Indigo Prophecy and Heavy Rain. but sadly, Indigo Prophecy and Heavy Rain HAS THE WORST ACTING IN THE WHOLE FUCKING WORLD. i cant even stress how much balls the acting sucks. you wanna curse God for giving you ears when you hear the voices.
if a real life director like Quentin Tarantino gets a hold of the Heavy Rain engine. then we might get there.
" Sounds like something that could completely fall flat on it's face. By the way Ryan describes this game, it makes me think of another step away from classic video game formulas. Into a new era of electronic entertainment fused with big budget films. Interactive movies. Which makes me wonder if they can get it right and not forget its a game. Story alone can only go so far and many gamers don't like long movies or even ones you interact with. They want their button mashing fix. I am also not a fan of quick time events, at all. I have always felt they are a cheap tool for getting a rise out of the gamer. The way Horror movies use quick shots of gore to startle the viewer. It's always felt lazy and cheap to me. Tools like that tend to lack the elegance and subtly, that the story itself is trying to deliver. Anyway, Ryan makes we want to learn more about this "Game." Whether he is being polite for receiving a early copy or not. I'm really looking forward to the QL. Hope its the classic duo of Ryan and Jeff. Dayz Ma Favo Rits! "I completely disagree. The reason I hate most video games is because they try to stay as close to the "classic video game formulas" as possible, with little to no innovation. And even if this game is a massive failure, it's a step in the right direction, in my opinion.

Uncharted 2 hits the perfect balance between game and cinematic for me." its a fuck load of fucktastic awesomeness what Uncharted 2, Modern Warfare 2, Metal Gear Solid 4 are doing (making video games closer to a movie experience) but they're still video-gamey.
I fear Heavy Rain will be a noble and successful attempt at something I don't personally want.
Should I set the table in Heavy Rain? Or jump off a burning truck onto another truck before it explodes in Uncharted 2?
Take a shower? Or try and escape a collapsing building while a helicopter is shooting missles at me?
I just can't shake this feeling of a C-grade, straight to video, crime thriller driven by quicktime events.
Hopefully I'm wrong. :)

no not at all. you don't control the sims actually washing themselves. this is totally different. its just that, this has no business being in a videogame. who in there right mind thinks "taking a shower=good gameplay"" @TwoOneFive said:

Stories is so important now, this is practically guaranteed solid reviews. Doesn't seem like my kind of game though
woops i meant story
that tiny typo obviously made my comment completely incomprehensible
thanks for pointing that out :P
smart ass
I absolutely loved the story telling in indigo prophecy, it was definitely a one of a kinda experience.. I would play this game based on that alone, but it seems they've evolved on that quite a bit, I'm really looking forward to it.
It's definitely not going to be for everyone though...
