All I want to know is - does the game's story follow the same bonkers jumping of the shark of fahrenheit? If so, I'll give this a pass thanks as the whole second half of that game ruined the experience for me worse than the Matrix sequels.
Heavy Rain
Game » consists of 12 releases. Released Jan 25, 2010
An interactive thriller from the studio behind Indigo Prophecy, sporting a dark storyline involving the investigation of a mysterious serial killer.
A Procedural Downpour: Heavy Rain Hands-On
Have we reached the point now that the US will get the full version of the game? Or will it have all the boobs and interactive sex stripped out just as they did with Indigo Prophecy?

I am wondering what Sony's and Quantic Dream's expectations for sales of this game are. It's a new IP plus it is catering to a niche audience.

"I think they are hoping for cult status and high review scores but I agree this has a high risk of ending up one of those games with perfect scores but very low sells. I at least hope they have learned and aren't going to release this game in a busy period. Late January, early February would probably be best for this game. Grabbing a cup of hot choco and doing another episode of the story could become the thing to do this winter.
"I've been looking for an excuse for getting a PS3 (Uncharted 2 not withstanding). I think this is the one. "
Yep i with u ive been waiting to get a ps3 until this game came out, just because i was such a big fan of IP. This game and allen wake should make for some good new releases for the adventure catagory in 2010 im looking forward to both.

Why does this have to be a PS3 Exclusive?! I've been a huge fan of Indigo Prophecy since it came out (well, the first 3/4's of it anyways) and when I heard the same guys were behind Heavy Rain I nearly blew a gasket. It sounds like they've refined the original formula a lot and this could turnout REALLY damned good.
You don't see the appeal of being able to control the "actors" in a movie? I've been hoping for that since I was a kid. This ain't quite there, mind you. But it's certainly aspiring to the end-goal of interactive movie-making." I really don't get the appeal of this game. It seems like a movie with some quick time events, so why not just watch a movie. Where is the game? "
It's at very least ballsy and respectable that they are making such a pure go of it.
And in this "movie" there are multiple endings, and moreover the game can end at any point where it's possible for your main characters to die out. Once one character dies, the others continue on with the death in mind. Once all die, game over. Roll credits.
There's no telling yet what kind of effects on the story or gameplay this will have. But the prospect of seeing all the story threads could lead to great replayability, and also it's the opposite of how games are typically designed these days. It's built upon consequences, as opposed to letting the player play with no consequence as with 99% of the games out today.
Not trying to change your mind. This game obviously ain't for everyone. I'm just giving you some insight to why this is a very intriguing game to many.
I think this is one of the greatest previews I've ever read, no joke. The game sounds really interesting, and thanks Ryan for not spoiling the story as other sites said they would (I immediatly stopped reading those ones)
One of the only games I envy the PS3 for getting. I loved Fahrenheit, even though I never completed it, and this looks like a more polished, better and awesomer than Fahrenheit. I hope that I by the time it comes out, have a PS3. This could be a very long, serious, and gritty interactive story, and I really hopes it's going to be that. I really have faith in the game, and Quantic Dream.

Molemen
Glad you kept this spoilr and story free. Really looking forward to this. Played Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy for the first time about 8 months ago and while it started strong it felt weak and weird at the end. Really hoping they stick to its guns in this one and keep it as serious and plausible as possible.

Oh darn. Soo disappointed. I was hoping .. in this game .. during like the last 45 minutes of the game, you know?
This cinches it:
I'm am in 100% media blackout phase for this game. It seems like a game that is intended to be experienced as raw and unaware as humanly possible. If I see or hear the words "Heavy Rain", from this moment on, I'm clamping my eyes shut, putting my fingers in my ears, and loudly yelling, "NO-NO-NO-NO-NO-NO-NO-NO-NO-NO!!!!".

I know, Canadian politics has degenerated to this.
Great preview Ryan! I'm looking forward to this game, and from what i read it looks like it will be a new experience. I was kind of bummed out after listening to the latest podtoid where someone spoiled a mayor event from the beginning of the game. I'm pretty sure they played the same previewbuild, but unlike Ryan, didn't have the decency the keep it spoiler free.
" any word on a demo? and i have to say, this completely seems like a 'Ryan' game "Would you say that it is... So Ryan?

I found it interesting that they would show the water level at the beginning of scenes. In Fahrenheit (or Indigo Prophecy as you folks might call it), the game told you the temperature (in Fahrenheit) at the beginning of each sequence and as the story progressed, it got colder. So I'm guessing, it'll keep raining and the water level will rise. The game looks very interesting, not your typical frag-fest but more of an interactive thriller. Hopefully they can make good on some of the promises that were made with Fahrenheit.
" @Scooper said:I'm sorry I can't. I'm too busy buying this can of soda... I'll be with you in 5 minutes." It sounds a bit like Shenmue but more interesting. At least to me. "Yeah, I was thinking the exact same thing. The minutiae of it all that Ryan mentioned really reminds me of the same "world" feeling that Shenmue tried to portray. Anyone for a game of darts? "
Having played this game myself (at the Eurogamer Expo) I must say that some of the voice acting is a real killer for the game's atmosphere. One line of dialouge that really threw off my whole experiance was "Mad" Jack's (is that his name? He's the big black dude at the scrapyard) shouting "Go fuck yourself in the ass" to the police officer. That line itself is cringeworthy enough but it seems so forced and out of place, almost as if Quatum Dream went out of there way to make the black guy "over-black".
Hope they sort it.
