Heavy Rain
Game » consists of 12 releases. Released Jan 25, 2010
An interactive thriller from the studio behind Indigo Prophecy, sporting a dark storyline involving the investigation of a mysterious serial killer.
The Ending - Obvious MAJOR Spoilers.
Yep ridiculous. I stand by what destructoid said about the game:
"Ultimately, Heavy Rain is an experiment that both succeeded and failed, when it could easily have been a total success if the brains behind it weren't trying so hard to be smart, and cared more about providing a sensible plot as opposed to a shocking one."
That's about what I expected, given the complete mess that was Indigo Prophecy. At one point in that game, everything seemed to come apart and morph into a ludicrous tangle. I didn't have much hope that Heavy Rain would be any different, and I've been hearing small confirmations of it over the last few days. Disappointing. I mean, even before I knew more about the ending of the game I wasn't too excited about the gameplay, but this news really kills the game for me. :/

So tell me... does it pull an Indigo Prophecy where the plot goes off the deep end and as a result completely destroys the viewer's suspension of disbelief?
It's not so much ridiculous as it is the writers not laying the proper logical groundwork for the twist. The whole "viewpoint character is the killer!" thing is tricky enough; the fact that games are an interactive medium makes the proposition infinitely messier. And in that respect, QuanticDream wasn't up to the task.
If nothing else, though, Heavy Rain opens up this kind of gameplay paradigm (if it sells) for other developers to play around with, possibly with better writers. So it's still sort of a win, if not for QuanticDream then for gaming as a whole. At least... that's what I'm telling myself as I watch this weirdly disjointed ending. =(
" @CL60: "What do you gain from posting this!" "A discussion?
Also, I was planning on buying a PS3 for this game. Now that I know the ending, and the details of its relevance, then fuck. No reason to play it now.
I have not played the game but I looked at the spoiler and now I want to play the game more.
to see why if he is the killer shouldn't they know all the answers to the questions they are asking?
" @HaltIamReptar: I was hopping for some time before a topic like this popped up. Games are getting spoiled way to early nowadays. "ehh I don't mind the spoilers i actually want to play the game more now. Plus just finding out this one fact is not the biggest part of the game.
" @JustTheDoctor said:If this spoiler gives you no reason to play the game, then you were not interested in the game enough to buy a PS3 for it...at all." @CL60: "What do you gain from posting this!" " @trophyhunter: It's a huge part of the game!, are you serious?! "yeah I'm serious plus then tho that guy will always be the killer the ending can shake out like 15 or 20 vastly different ways.
" @CL60: Well, no actually. Assumptions! "Explain then. If you were so excited for a game that you were going to buy a ps3 for it, why exactly would you open a thread marked as "THE ENDING" then say..."WTF I JUST SEEN SPOILERS OF THE ENDING, NOW I'M NOT PURCHASING THIS!"
So no, I am not assuming.

" @trophyhunter: Exactly "He's always the kill". "yeah but there is an entire 15 hour game around that. I never understood why people always say spoilers and cheats ruin games?
it's the adventure not the destination

It was the one-armed man! Also, Sean Bean dies, and it was the name of the sled all along! You'll shoot your eye out!@trophyhunter

" @trophyhunter: It's frustrating when you have been waiting for a game for years and then a important part in the story is ruined for you. "I've been excited for heavy rain nonstop for about 3 years and I'm still getting it day one.
" @trophyhunter: What do you want from me a biography?, you guys keep saying the game ends in whatever amount of different ways. But the fact still stands that he is the killer!. Looks like you're not to brainy. "ok if that was the only reason you were interested in the game, fine don't play it geeze.
My involvement with the game thus far has been watching the quick look, but even I think that twist sounds ridiculous.
" @trophyhunter: I'm still going to play the game and I'm going to enjoy it. But it's still annoying when your playing one of the characters and you know they are the killer. "Why did you even open the topic AND the spoiler tag if you didn't want to be spoiled?
