I was right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HAHA!!! I guessed completely based off the demo!! I wasn't going to play the game because I hate interactive porn so I was ok with the spoilers btw.
Heavy Rain
Game » consists of 12 releases. Released Jan 25, 2010
An interactive thriller from the studio behind Indigo Prophecy, sporting a dark storyline involving the investigation of a mysterious serial killer.
The Ending - Obvious MAJOR Spoilers.
I've not played the game, and as I don't own a ps3, i won't be doing so any time soon, so answer a question if you can.
Since Shelby is the killer, what happens if you kill him off?
This is nuts to me. Heavy Rain is a game designed to evoke emotions and discussion. There's no reason players who have finished the game should have to wait for the entire world to get through it before being allowed to talk about it. OP is responsible for clearly marking this information as a spoiler only (which was done), not your inability to control yourself."It's frustrating when you have been waiting for a game for years and then a important part in the story is ruined for you. "
to be clear JustTheDoctor said that not me I don't mind spoilers at all" @JustTheDoctor said:

"But it annoys me that Ethans blackouts aren't explained. Like why he wakes up with an origami figure for example.

"Yeah, seriously. Major, major plot hole here and ultimately just cheap misdirection.
I assume spoilers are obvious here, so no need to tag anything. I assume you mean the killer reveal more than the ending, since the ending is going to vary.
I actually loved the ending, yes I was shocked and dumbfounded. I actually nearly collapsed back into my seat, it just shook me that much. On the other hand, it makes perfect sense too, and I don't think it's some crazy twist that Cage pulled out of his rear. I think it was brilliant, could be pieced together from all the evidence going along, and was a smart, clever way to end. It'd have been dumb if it was one of the really really obvious choices (Ethan having MPD would have been stupid, face it).
I probably could never play the game again, it wouldn't have the same magic, but it was easily one of the most eventful (and important) games I've played...ever. Much better put together than Indigo Prophecy, I loved that it was mostly rooted in real life (except ARI) and just the amount of emotion that went into the game. Would not be surprised if it topped my goty list, but I won't say that til the end of the year.
I don't understand the comparisons to IP. Shelby being the killer wasn't too much of a left-field reveal. The only real annoying thing was that the stuff you saw while controlling him had to be altered so that you wouldn't guess halfway into the game. As for why Shelby went after Gordi: matter of principle? Maybe he wanted to be the only one killing the kids because he felt that he was justified and that Gordi wasn't. Though I would like to hear an explanation for Ethan holding the origami figure.
I figured that the explanation of Shelby pursuing Gordi was as simple as his decision to pursue the copycat as a cover-up. That, and Gordi killed for all the "wrong" reasons in Shelby's mind. Shelby murdered children to prove a point to their fathers. Gordi killed a kid because he thought "playing" Origami Killer would be fun...and then the kid died.
I agree, I think Shelby was chasing Gordi because of Gordi's twisted motivations. He saw himself as a pure avenger for his brother, and Gordi was just a sick twisted child-killer. I don't think the cover-up necessarily played a huge part of that (though it did with the rest of his investigations). I just think he was furious as to why the guy was killing.
I'll be blunt because it's what I'm best at: If you can't believe Shelby was the killer, you played the game wrong. Just straight up wrong. Like, you didn't do things in scenes, or didn't think about them, or just didn't watch what happened. Maybe you played for the fight scenes? Or just glossed over plot elements. Every single action Scott Shelby takes in this game from the first scene is dedicated to cleaning up evidence from his old crime scenes, attempting to figure out what happened to the fathers, and trying to stop someone from copy-catting his crimes. Every damn scene he's in fits this profile. You can't say he's "too nice" or anything along those lines because he wasn't a mindless psychopath, he was a serial killer.
And I must be missing it... When did he wake up with origami in his hand? Ethan I mean. He didn't have origami in his hand after blacking out when Shaun was taken, he doesn't say that happens to him when he talks to the shrink, and the shrink only mentions that he found an origami figure on the floor after Ethan left one of their sessions. Since Shelby knew where he was going I don't see why that couldn't have been a plant. I'm probably missing the scene where he actually woke up with a dog though.
Some of the problems that people are raising have explanations, others do not.... (EDIT: looking at a few of the posts here, I'm struggling to find anything that hasn't been answered, so nuts to it. Sonic Boyster = yes)
But in the end, I didn't spot these problems until AFTER I had finished the game. In the meantime, it was one of the most awesome 8 hours of my life. So I wouldn't worry about it too much, the gemotional and psychological impact of the game far ourweighs its logic.
It does help that I played the game straight through and finished at 3:00 AM though...that tends to impare ones reasoning abilities...

"That's what annoyed me the most was that things you saw whilst controlling Shelby had to be altered to fit their misguided plot... I thought this game shoved the whole idea of control and choices in my face like dirty underwear, so I felt cheapened out when that whole sense of control, choice and consequence was taken away to fit the whole Idea of Shelby being the killer.
" @choffy21: I totally forgot about that. But...
"that seems to explain the blackouts but not the origami figures in his hands? Unless you're suggesting that the blackouts and the figures are all just not actually happening (an illusion that results from irregular brain activity)... then that might work.
I'm surprised no one came to the assumption that the reason Shelby was chasing Gordi was to make Lauren assume that he was trying to solve the murder since to misdirect her which equally misdirected the users. I really don't see Shelby being that big of a plothole compared to most episodes of Dexter.
I deffinately didnt see it coming with Shelby, glad i didnt see any spoilers. Does it makes sense? Sure. Is it a good payoff? Kinda... its good enough I'd say, pretty much as good as most serial killer movies. The whole ethan with the origami figure in his hand thing feels like a plot hole, as does him talking about drowning bodies to his shrink... his kid was run over by car, and he talks about drowning bodies? Clearly just a cheap way to misdirect people. I still liked, hell, I loved the game, but it starts much strongly than it ends, that's for sure :D Brad's 4/5 is spot on in my opinion.
