Overview
Jonathan Morris is one of the two main characters in Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin (the other main character being his partner and obvious love interest Charlotte Aulin). During the events of the game, Jonathan is eighteen years old. His father was John Morris, one of the protagonists of Castlevania: Bloodlines. Jonathan also ends up using the Vampire Killer, like his father did before him. At first, the whip is not fully powered up (as he is not a Belmont), so he is able to equip a variety of other weapons. In the English version of the game, Jonathan is voiced by Liam O'Brien.
In Portrait of Ruin, alongside Charlotte, Jonathan fights Brauner, a vampire intent on becoming the new ruler of Dracula's castle, and Bauner's two daughters, Stella and Loretta. However, an apparition named Wind (actually the deceased Eric Lecarde), who is trapped forever inside of the castle, offers his assistance to Jonathan. If the player so chooses, Wind can help Jonathan learn to unlock the full potential of the Vampire Killer, by fighting Richter Belmont's spirit, although because Jonathan is not a Belmont, the strain of the fully-powered whip on his spirit may end up killing him. In fact, it is exactly that that caused the death of his father John. Hence, it is left as an optional choice for the player.
Not much is known of Jonathan after the events of Portrait of Ruin. There is speculation that he was involved in the Demon Castle War, a war mentioned in Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow that took place in 1999 which resulted in the final death of Dracula. Jonathan was also probably the one who gave the Vampire Killer to Julius Belmont, the latest in the long line of Belmonts.
Jonathan and Charlotte appear as two of the six default playable characters in Castlevania: Harmony of Despair.
