So, going near that island automatically causes your plane to crash and boat to blow up? That is beyond awesome. Definitely the best Lost reference in a video game to date.

Awesome! I saw this on Kotaku first though. So has anyone done the mission tied to the island? It unlocks after you do the 2nd stronghold takeover for the Ural Boys (yellow icon) and the mission is called "Stranded"  its located somewhere on the coast at an airport. Its really cool cuz it explains the mystery of the island.

I just spent the last hour exploring the island. 
 
I tried triggered explosives on the hatch. No dice. I tried hitting the hatch with my grappling hook and shooting it. No Desmond's light. 
 
Sorta bummed, but there are armed dudes walking around WWII-looking bases and installations wearing Dharma-like clothing.

Awesome.
 
Does the soundtrack actually kick in when you get close, or was that just the video? Because if the soundtrack actually kicks in, that is fucking incredible.

Has anyone tried either melee attacking the hatch, or strapping dynamite to it? If either of those have an effect, this game will officialy blow my mind.

This is the kinda of stuff that makes sandbox games great.
 
You do get a mission to go to the island, which disables the bad weather and plane crashing after completion.
The whole mystery angle makes the mission really sweet.

I don't watch Lost but I totally approve of random pop culture references in video games.  I plan on watching Lost but only after the final season has aired so I can just watch it all the way through.  I also may pick this game up this weekend even though I have no money at all to spend on games.
