Just Cause
Just Cause is yet another third person sand box game. This one takes place on a remote island somewhere in South America. The whole idea is a pretty neat one, you are Rico Rodriguez, you work for an government agency, and your job is taking dictators down by messing up the economics of their country. Sounds great, doesn’t it? The problem is that “destroying economy” is very simplified and ends up being destroying facilities and cargos in the main story missions, and wrecking havoc on the streets of the island. It is all too simple. And short, but this is actually a good thing. Rico has a big set of moves, he can jump from cars, onto cars, he can pull out a grappling hook and attach himself to a helicopter and steal it. It’s not very realistic, but the game never says it should be (infinite parachute anyone?). So what’s the problem? The island is very big, and getting around it ends up in being a constant lookout for a helicopter, because every other vehicle has a handling of a cardboard box. Every car in this game drives the same, the planes are a real pain, and walking on foot is just pointless. The game is also too easy, the only reason you will ever die in it is because you got stuck between wrecks of cars or remotely anything else in the game world, or you were doing a mission where you cannot leave your vehicle. The whole game feels like it is unfinished – it’s very clear that it was rushed, and a lot of things were taken out or left as they are – working sloppy or not at all.
