In her youth Karma spent most of our time meditating in the lotus gardens, unaffected by the normal emotions that accompanied adolescence. She believed the true path to enlightenment was a journey inward. Karma became the villages go to mediator and confidante and it was said that not only could she weather a storm, but she could calm it. Her parents were poor antique sellers struggling to get by. Karma's most cherished possessions are two fans she found in her parents shop. When Ionia was invaded by the Noxians, her village was among the first to fall. Those who survived were taken captive by the Noxian troops. Karma managed to free the prisoners by exploiting the insecurities of the Noxian commander. Karma was present at Placidium when Irelia made her impassioned last stand in the face of surrender. Karma used this new hope to rally the troops and keep the elders defiant of the Noxian forces. Due to her charisma, Karma was made the figurehead of the resistance. In combat, she discovered she could bring great force against her foes and used her fans as powerful implements. Karma was tutored by Janna to make her abilities more powerful. Karma joined the league to represent Ionia in the ultimate political arena.
