Joystiq reports that HD remakes of KH1, KHreCOM, and KH 358/2 Days will launch sometime next year in Japan.

Square Enix has revealed Kingdom Hearts is finally on its way to current-era home consoles. In typical wacky naming fashion for the publisher, the bundle including HD remastered versions of Kingdom Hearts Final Mix, Kingdom Hearts - Re:Chain of Memories, and Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days will launch in 2013 under the banner of Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix.

No stranger to re-releases, the Kingdom Hearts franchise will further update the PS2 re-release of Chain of Memories – originally a GBA game – to the PS3. Final Mix was a Japanese-exclusive re-release of the first game, which added new content found in the North American version of the game. Though the DS-exclusive 358/2 Days would probably see the most tweaking to get it to land on home consoles, speculation based on a Famitsu report is the PS3 release will only feature remade cutscenes from in the handheld title and not its gameplay.

I'd love to get this, especially if the original KH's controls were updated to at least the standards of KH2.

I am not really sure this is a such a good idea. Don't get me wrong, I have every Kingdom Hearts on PS2, GBA, DS and 3DS and I love it, but PS3 remakes? Just exactly will constitute a remake - from the ground up?

No way. These will just have HD coats on em.

Hope that it is localized, if not hopefully it will remain region-free. Here is the Giant Bomb page for it by the way, characters, locations, etc should probably be added to it.

@AsperGamer: Many people say they'd like to play the KH sequel games but don't have the handheld systems, and SE's insistence that these games be played to follow the storyline both confuses and enrages those who liked KH1&2 and want to follow the story into KH3.

EDIT: So to these people, even basic port would be good enough.

I don't think I have any interest in getting up to speed on Kingdom Hearts. I don't think it'll be too complicated or anything, it all just doesn't look very interesting anymore.

At this point, I think I'd rather just jump in when Kingdom Hearts 3 proper comes out.

I always did want to play Chain of Memories. I guess it's worth it for that.

I'd play KH final mix, but I'm not interested in any other games in that series. I hope I can get it on psn for less.

Now someone tell them to do FF12:Zodiac edition HD.

I know square enix can go for a longer title for kingdom hearts then that.

KH the new CoD? Seems like they make one of these every year and it's the same game over and over.

While I'm excited for this because I've been waiting for HD Kingdom Hearts since HD collections first became a thing, it feels strange to just have KH1 and not 2. Also, if it's true that 358/2 days isn't the actually game, that just fucking sucks. Seems like a terrible package if its just KH1, Chain of Memories, and the cutcsenes from 358/2.

Oh no, absolutely. I just remember a few months back when I was excited at the prospect of a Kingdom Hearts HD collection but now would rather just dive in. Or should I say, deep dive... in.

What? That's ridiculous. I was pretty hyped for something like this, but there's really no excuse to not include 2, BbS, and Re:Coded.

Although not including the actual game from 358/2 is actually probably a pretty good idea. That game fucking sucked. Still, I don't think I can rationalize spending money on a package like this due to how incomplete it seems.

I had this idea in a list I was writing about an hour before they announced it. I would rather it have KH2 than all that other junk, but if they release 2.5 later on with a ps2 Birth by Sleep included then I will be happy.

Hasn't this been rumoured for a while now, remember around E3 time there was speculation.

I'm in, as long as they do a decent job. But yeah, not including the other games sort of sucks. Though I suspect it's not a quick fix to HD them.

There are really only two Kingdom Hearts games worth playing, and this collection is missing one of them. Seems like a really terrible value. This makes me wish Square Enix were more interested in making things available on PSN. They're most definitely already at work on Kingdom Hearts 2.5, which I assume will be a collection of 2, Birth By Sleep, and maybe something else; I really don't care about any of their portable nonsense, but if they were to put each of the games up separately on PSN, I'd definitely be interested in having HD versions of 1 and 2.

I really hope that they don't stick with the 1.5.

Meh, I'd rather see a KH1 and KH2 bundle. Almost all of the spin-offs are just terrible.

Hope it comes out in the US.

Am super excited but the 1.5 is so obvious, the next HD "Remix" will be 2.5 and will include KH2 and Birth by Sleep and probably Dream Drop Distance (2.75 for that one). I don't care as long as it keeps getting closer to the 3. At least the secret message at the end of KH 3D was predicting a near-ish future.

Shitty and insane names for Kingdom Heart games is mandatory.

I tried to play the 3DS game and while it is technically fine and an extremely beautiful, I just realized I don't really give a shit about the series anymore.

Everyone keeps forgetting about Re:Coded. They're going to release 2.5 with KH2, BBS, and Re: Coded. Then they'll release KH: 3D as a standalone 2.75.

Just so people know, the HD parts of 359/2 days isn't the game; it is just certain cut-scenes viewable in a Theatre-like mode. So it is basically a HD version of KH Final Mix + (Chain of Memories) with 358/2 days scenes.
