Magic Ball, renamed MagicOrbz is a breakout clone released on January 15th, 2009 for the PSN. This game takes that basic formula that you’re all used to and changes it, just a little bit. You’ll see everything you’re use to seeing in other breakout games--power ups, balls, paddles--y’know, that kinda stuff. But what makes MagicOrbz different is that instead of destroying different colored blocks, you destroy everything. Anything that shows up on the level can be destroyed, but it’s just awkward and the textures look terrible.

This game started out with 2 different themes, Pirates and Knights. Two DLC packs were later released, adding “Wicked Witches” and “Winter” themes. There is another theme labeled “Coming Soon” but meh. I wouldn’t worry about this one; the game today is terrible compared to the monster of Shatter.

What you need to do is hit certain objects a couple times. As they’re hit, they get darker, and eventually disappear. When they do, you get points, and maybe a power-up, or a skull which instantly kills you, fun. Not to mention the physics are awkward; sometimes the ball will bounce sideways off the grid, other times you’ll catch it with a small invisible wall that’s somewhere on your paddle.

That’s it. Good old breakout with bad textures and awkward physics. Skip this one, go buy Shatter instead.

It is effectively the next iteration in that formula. You take control of a paddle at the bottom of the screen and bounce a ball at wall full of stuff to destroy. If you miss the ball on its way down with your paddle, you lose a life. Lose them all and its game over. The primary addition here though is that instead of just bustin...

Magic Ball is a PlayStation Network game in which you will be playing a version of brick in 3D. If you are unfamiliar with Brick it is a game in which you will be using a paddle to break bricks, but this time around you're going to be breaking objects that lie within the current level. The graphics look good. The camera angle is a bit odd and there are times where you're going to lose sight of the ball. Speaking of ball the choice of a soccer ball I find quite bizarre. The level themes are creati...
