I'm new here. a PS2 MVC2 scrub. Howdy folks.
Got me a PS3 now and MVC3 is on the way via Amazon. You fellas seem pretty chummy. Hope to meet up with some of ya soon. I'm a weekend warrior mostly, from the East Coast.
I gotta ask this: how many of you are using a ps3 controller and not an arcade stick? Not sure I wanna drop a buck on a stick, and I'm praying that the controller will be worthy of Marvel madness. Can the buttons be re-mapped? Can 2 button commands be mapped to a single R-button? I see that X-factor requires a 4-button input (and the 3rd tier hypers need 3 buttons) and I'm not seeing myself mash this very easily with just one thumb...
I'll be attacking the user list at the start of this thread when the time comes. Peace out and happy hunting.
Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds
Game » consists of 10 releases. Released Feb 15, 2011
After a decade-long hiatus, Marvel vs. Capcom 3 continues the popular crossover fighting game series characterized by fast-paced gameplay, complex tag teams, and elaborate combos.
The PS3 MvC3 Community Thread
2 = Yes, buttons can be remapped.
3 = This game requires 6 buttons. The ps3 controller has 8 buttons. You can use your remaining 2 buttons for X-factor and LMH if you want.
Most of us are UK/on the closer side of Europe to you, so we should get a decent connection. There's also plenty of new players kicking about, too.
Can't wait till they fix Endless and we can all get big sets on. Multiple lobbies ftw!
Also, while I like the game, it makes me the saltiest man alive. I feel half the time I lose it's just bullshit, unlike SF. Not that I know the game well. Definitely won't be going online for at least a week...
gg rhak and static... edit: AND COOKIES AS WELL
@Rhaknar: tbh after a couple of days you'll be beating me... played alot of games today and i still have no idea how to get in at all
"@Rhaknar: tbh after a couple of days you'll be beating me... played alot of games today and i still have no idea how to get in at all "Tell me about it...
watching some of that Team Khaos streamed videos. firstly... well heck wow for Bucktooth going apes#!7 on everybody else. and secondly... why can't the competition keep up??
Mind you, I'll be one of those getting whupped (mostly due to the limitations of a ps3 controller) for quite a bit until I get some serious practice in. I'm sorta hoping Bucktooth is one of the elite (?) and not the average player, cuz otherwise I'mma have my hands full!
Taskmaster combos are hard.

Oh, and you think he's good, J.Wong trolled everyone with his Wolverine on WNF. Ridiculous.

and... a guide book? boy I've been outta the loop. where's a fella pick that up? will it be better than the info given at Marvel vs Capcom 3 - Shoryuken Wiki, Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Strategy and More! ?
It was written by four tournament level players and is a really amazing product altogether. Some of the information will become outdated as more advanced, team spanning combos are discovered but it is an amazing starting point and frame data will never go out of style. That and sometimes it's just fun to have a big fat book to read about a game that you love.
Edit: Too bad they didn't record the exhibition of JWong VS Almost every high lvl MVC3 player... He never lost a fight. I'm pretty sure he never lost a match on the actual tournament either." @animateria said:

" @Axxol: YO READ THE OP YO READ IT SON "Guys, this isn't the 360 thread.
At the same time, we aren't elitist; add any of us from the front page and you'll get invited. Stick around and you'll get added to the list, too.
It's to prevent what is essentially a spam thread.
Hulk definitely looks wicked, and he was one of my main characters with MVC2. Wondering if there's a good mix I can stir up like Hulk, X-23, and ... ? Wesker? Deadpool? Spencer? Rather hate this waiting around lol. Monday's a holiday, and postal tracking has my game stuck somewhere between here and Norwood, MA over the long weekend. :(
"Anyone up for some games Sunday? Could use some serious leveling up "
I should be down.
Add me up.
PSN: Bloodgraive
Been rocking Skrull/Doom/Amaterasu, but basically just mashing so far...
Had some GGs with Rhaknar, the EU->US lag wasn't too horrible, a few dropped combos for my wolvie but Hulk was fine. I look forward to facing the rest of my compatriots across the pond.
Dammit, my game is due to arrive tomorrow. Today would've been an excellent oppertunity to hit some training mode, but alas.
" Had some GGs with Rhaknar, the EU->US lag wasn't too horrible, a few dropped combos for my wolvie but Hulk was fine. I look forward to facing the rest of my compatriots across the pond. "this is true, i get basically 0 lag with peeps in uk, and very little with starving in the US, certainly nothing that affected gameplay much. The only cases i had of lag that did affect gameplay were with mechwing in canada, and some dude in italy
When my coursework is done, expect to see me online a lot.
I'm up for games on Monday, I have the day off because Canada has "family day" which is the stupidest holiday ever. Who's up for some MvC3?
I am going to nail Buktooth's Doom loop by the end of the day, even if my fingers are reduced to bleeding, blistered, barnacled stubs.
...then Ammy...
I'm not sure if i should buy SSFIV or MvC3.
I don't have experience with Beat 'em ups.
Anyone has an advice for me?
SSF4 is {comparatively} a little boring, but, as far as I'm concerned, a better fighting game.
MVC3 is balls to the wall ridiculous, a ton of fun, but is totally broken and often random.
Both require good execution, though, MVC3 is a little more lenient in terms of timings. There are few links (frame-advantage based combos), and more chains (timing doesn't matter as much because the moves will cancel into each other).
Hope this helps.
Edit: Also, the community for MVC3 is probably going to be busier for a while, considering it's brand new. All things to take into consideration.
@monocactus: You can find SSF4 for cheaper, but like GE said MvC3, being the new shit right now, has a much bigger community, especially here.
Both games have elements to them that make them easy to pick up. SSF4 is the slower game, and the bulk of what you need to succeed is in fundamentals and matchup knowledge rather than combos. MvC3 is faster, but the basic combos are easier. Not only will you need to learn the game's own set of fundamentals but you'll need to build a solid team and learn more advanced combos for all 3 characters on your team.
Both games are fun at super basic levels. SSF4 can get more frustrating at higher levels, whereas MvC3 gets crazier.
Thank you both.
For me, the footage of MvC3 is quite disturbing.
I don't see the fighters anymore because of all the effects. Seems a little overload.
How do you feel?
I actually did that with Super, played ranked games on another account after winning my first 10 matches. I am mad though.
Marvel is just INSANITY that has been boiled down to concentrate and then infused with crack (for speed) and 'shrooms (for the pretty colors)!
Amateurs and intermediates can have so much fun spewing Unmitigated Chaos about the screen that they'll fail to notice the passage of time, and might not blink during an entire match for fear of missing something.
Creativity and quick reflexes will take you far, and make you giggle. (that's OK, its normal)
BUT :
The learning curve seems pretty friendly until you stumble upon an advanced player. At which point the careless flick of a light attack while out of range will actually mean you've trapped yourself into an endless combo of doom: Mathematical Precision will reveal Unmitigated Chaos for a sham; yer jimmies will spontaneously shrivel up on themselves and then 'splode in *poof* of dust; and that *warm-fuzzy* you had built up over the last few hours will melt away, replaced by *creeping-icy* that holds you frozen in a blind panic, unable to do more than crouch, whimpering in the corner, praying for the unrelenting carnage to end.
If yer anything like me (during my MVC2 infancy), the first time you experience ^^all of the above^^ - and run the gamut from pure joy to sheer terror - you'll probably 1) need smelling salts to snap you out of the stupor, 2) need to go change yer shorts (and you'll never be sure at exactly what point that happened), and 3) have just developed an uncontrollable addiction to MVC3 that could threaten yer job status and jeopardize many of yerr personal relationships.
How could you even consider picking up any other game??
