    A friend alerted me to this today.  One of my favorite games is now available to play on a modern OS, and it's dirt cheap.  Master of Magic was really tremendous for its time.  It was a very cool combination of genres, with a core Civilization style gameplay, but with tactical combat (similar to Heroes of Might and Magic) and rpg elements (heroes gaining levels and abilities, collecting artifiacts, casting spells, etc.).   I'm really excited to get back into this.

    You said Heroes of Might and Magic. Therefore I am interested. Consider me half-sold already.

    @ArbitraryWater: Yeah, the combat is actually surprisingly similar to Heroes of Might and Magic.  The camera shows the battle field from a higher angle, and there aren't siege weapons, but those are relatively minor differences.

    @Skywarpgold: This was one of my favorite games in high school.  I would absolutely LOVE to see a remake with updated graphics, enemy AI, diplomacy, and some of the cool things that Civilization has developed over the last decade, but I'm afraid that might be a pipe dream.

    @mzuckerm:  I would say you're probably right, but they're about to release an updated Monkey Island 2 after the first one did so well, so don't give up hope!

    @mzuckerm:
     Is it worth checking out? Obviously I'm asking a fan of the game, but has it aged well?

    @TwoLines: It's definitely still playable.  Of course, I say that as a fan, and as someone who played it on DOSBox only a few years ago, but I stand by it.  The graphics aren't great, but in a Civ-type game I don't think they need to be.  You don't get the same control over the map you do with a modern Civ game either, but you get used to that.  The biggest problem for me is diplomacy.  These strategy games have come pretty far in making computer opponents act as more than one-dimensional caricatures.  Unfortunately, this game didn't spend much time on that, so the other players are basically there to be conquered, not tolerated or allied with.  Plus, there's no cool culture or similar features that Civ 3 and 4 utilized.  But all in all, it's still fun, and the downside's really small (it's like $6).

    @mzuckerm:  Thanks, I'll check it out, sounds like the type of game I could really get into (I love HoMM 2/3 and MoO 1/2).
    And it has multiplayer, so with a friend that's also really into turn based games, I think It'll be worth the purchase.
