Mayong Mistmoore origins are not wholly known, but he is believed to be one of the two oldest non-dragon creatures living on Norrath (the other being Phinigel Autropos in Kedge Keep). He is a truly ancient elf that at some point was cursed with being the world's first vampire. Being immortal, he pops up in countless tales all across Norrath, but first-hand accounts of Mayong are extremely rare. He has countless spies in every corner of the world that do his bidding and report back to him on important events.

For a long time, he resided in Castle Mistmoore, a mansion hidden deep within the Faydark forest of Faydwer, but he hasn't been seen there in many years. Bored with simply immortality, it was said he left to find a way to ascend to godhood.

It wasn't until the Wayfarers Brotherhood discovered the Depths of Darkhollow that it was revealed that Mayong had been residing underground conducting experiments and gaining power in secret for decades. He had become obsessed with attaining godhood, and devised a plan to lure Norrathian adventurers to his hidden fortress known as Dreadspire Keep. Yes, he fully intended to be found and to be slain even. This allowed him to ascend to the planes of the gods where took over the The Plane of Music from Ayonae Ro and converted it into a twisted corrupted realm he renamed The Theater of Blood, then locked the goddess of music away in the realm's formerly beautiful tower now known as Deathknell.

From here, Mayong planned to continue upwards through the pantheon. After the mortals had invaded the Planes of Power several years prior, the gods had abandoned them. This left them unprepared and vulnerable upon Mayong's arrival. His second stop was the realm of Solusek Ro, which was no easy task, but he once again planned to rely on the unwitting help of Norrath's bravest mortals to take down the sun god. Both Mayong and Solusek are defeated by Norrath's best. As Mayong falls to the floor in defeat, his body withers as if he has instantly aged the thousands of years of his life. His fate is left unclear, but only the dimmest ogre would presume he was gone for good.

Many years later, rumors began to swirl that Mayong Mistmoore had once again made his presence known after another extended seclusion. This time, he was not simply hiding in a castle or underground. Mayong Mistmoore had been rebuilding his strength on the moon!

Mayong Mistmoore only appeared in Castle Mistmoore for a very short period of time after the launch of EverQuest. Within a couple months, he was removed from the game for reasons that Verant Interactive did not divulge at the time.

His character model was later used for the Maestro of Rancor, a dark elf bard that resides in the Plane of Hate. During GM Events, Mayong would appear as a normal dark elf. Years later, when he re-entered the storylines of the games' expansions, his character model was fully redesigned.

Within Dreadspire Keep, Mayong Mistmoore had conjured an alternate reality hidden from view of any intruders until he so desired. This realm became known as the Demi-Plane of Blood, which was where his master plan of achieving godhood would finally come to fruition. Luring Norrath's mortals into his realm and letting them believe they could simply kill the ancient vampire, Mayong's "death" allowed him to ascend to the planes of the gods.

After conquering the Plane of Music and imprisoning Ayonae Ro, Mayong's next target was Ayonae's brother, the Prince of Flame, Solusek Ro. The powerful sun god proved to be a formidable foe for Mayong, but the new god had a plan to once again utilize the mortals of Norrath to unwittingly assist his quest up the pantheon. When the mortals finally reached Solteris (The Plane of Sun), they found Mayong and Solusek in the heat of battle. Solusek capitalized on this interruption before Mayong could and escaped deeper into his fortress, leaving the new god of blood to fend off the intruders. As Mistmoore falls in battle to Norrath's best, Solusek returns to taunt them all. Solusek vows to crush them for attempting to plunder his realm like they did to his father in Doomfire, the Burning Lands. As Solusek becomes overwhelmed by the mortals, Mistmoore finds a second wind and returns to battle while thanking the mortals for weakening the sun god. Realizing they've been used as pawns in this war amongst gods, the mortals take down both of them. Solusek is able to retreat while Mayong's body withers away as if he instantly aged the thousands of years he has lived. His fate is left unclear.

A villain with the power and cunning of Mayong Mistmoore would obviously survive the apocalyptic events of The Shattering. In the Age of Destiny, the vampire lord is still on a quest for godhood.
