When a robotic virus causes robots to either malfunction or go berserk, it's up to Mega Man and Proto Man to help cure it in the second deliberately-retro installment of the Mega Man series.
More specifically, look at Mega Man and Proto Man. Mega Man is wearing X's helmet, and Proto Man's scarf and weapon have been designed to resemble Zero's hair and Z-saber. Furthermore, Mega Man is wielding two weapons -- a gun, the weapon he has been seen with on the classic games' hilariously terrible boxart, and an armcannon, the weapon he had on Mega Man X's boxart. Add to that the fact that X is the roman symbol for 10, and you've got quite a number of details that point to Mega Man 10 bridging the gap between classic and X, making it the last classic Mega Man game.
And what does that mean, people? That's right, they might revisit the X series next, bringing us Mega Man X9 and possibly X10. Awesome.
" Deductive reasoning there, but you do know that you might be completely wrong, right...? "
That's why I wrote "will probably be".
But still, it's obvious that these hints are intentional. The helmet Mega Man is wearing is clearly X's, and there's no way Proto Man's cape and weapon just happened to turn out that way.
They could just start making Megaman Z(ero) games in this faux classic style if people continue to want them. Or, they could ignore the tens of people who care about Megaman "cannon" and just make the games forever.
It's mostly the same helmet that's on the Mega Man 9 cover.
Capcom would never bridge the gap between the two series (other than maybe a hint or two here and there) because that would signal finality of a franchise they probably don't want to end.
Yeah really, the whole point of the art is to emulate the early games art, which gave absolutely no indication of the actual game within. If anything, these things were added specifically because Megaman can't duel wield and doesn't have that helmet.
"Then again, it does seem like they are running out of names for villains. I mean, "Sheep Man"? Come on."
Sheep Man is a nod to the sci-fi novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?. "
Having read that book a few times, I'm not sure I see the "nod" besides it's, well, a sheep. Is Mega Man now hunting down robots that look and act like humans? Or did Mega Man used to own a sheep that died and now he's replaced it with a robot sheep, who is in fact Sheep Man </plot twist>?
