solid game
I thoroughly enjoyed this title. Many of the other reviews on this and other sites appear to capture what I experienced: solid gameplay set back by a so-so plot. Controls are responsive and intuitive. The game is fairly straightforward compared to early Metroid games, as there were only a few times when I was running back and forth not knowing where to go. The world (a larger spacefaring vessel) seems smaller and less epic than previous Metroid games - I admit missing that the sense of epic exploration. The game makes up for the feeling of locality by generating virtual environments (jungle, desert, etc.) onboard the ship. Difficulty is moderate the first time through, and I rarely found myself against too great of a challenge. The upgrading mechanic is truly silly - you are slowly given permission to use weapons you already have. The worst offender in this case is the power bomb, which is delayed far too long in my opinion. Overall, this is a must-have for Wii owners, but don't expect the same epic feel found in previous members of the series.
