I don't know if it's a "leak" because they knew people were disappointed by 1.8 being pushed back or a leak because someone figured out where the file was hosted. Just replace your minecraft.jar with that one. Notch said on twitter that it's okay to use. He just wants people to share the minecraft.net link so people aren't sharing sketchy files hosted who knows where.

That seems like a poor leak haha, really Notch was hosting it somewhere where anyone can get access? Seems silly.

When is the real one coming? I'd rather wait for the full than a pre-release, unless it has everything.

A quick glance at notch's twitter can confirm he's okay with it. At the very least, he wants you to report bugs.

I just tried it out and instantly was in a swamp. However, it appears that this computer doesn't want two browsers, two JTV streams and Minecraft at the same time so I'll have to wait.

Download that .jar. Then go to your Minecraft folder (YourUsername\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft - You may need to enable hidden folders to get there through the Windows Explorer) and drop that Minecraft.jar in the "bin" folder. Remember to create a backup of the 1.7 Minecraft.jar you already have there, in case you want to go back to that version.

If you replaced the 1.7 JAR and want to roll back to it, delete the 1.8 JAR and start Minecraft. It'll download the latest available version from the servers.

I've been messing around with it since and unsurprisingly it's pretty buggy in some spots. Not to mention unstable (just crashed on me there). Haven't had a chance to take a good look at everything but so far it feels pretty different. Double tapping the forward key actually goes into a sprint. That's soooo mainstream. Psshaw!

Just tried it out, 30 minutes in and still no augmentation. This is nothing like Deus Ex.

Try playing creative mode. You get the flying augmentation and the strength augmentation that lets you punch through anything in one hit, even bedrock.

I seem to always start in a swamp. Also when I put something in a furnace it would crash the game.

There's a lot new in this one. Off the top of my head, there's a few new enemy types, a hunger and experience system, new biomes - including swamps, ravines and oceans, NPC villages (which currently aren't populated) and a few other little things.

And yeah, this wasn't "leaked" it's an official release, a lot of people wanted to play it, but it's very buggy at the moment, so they put it up for "expert users" who want to try it out early and can help find problems.

So far I think it is pretty damn great. The hunger bar sounded pretty dumb at first, but I was actually frantically looking for food after my first night because I forgot to get some for the night. Also the new terrain generation and lighting is outstanding. I spawned in a mountain range with a ravine in front of me. I spent my night in a cave in this huge mountain, and explored this super deep ravine. I am looking forward to playing minecraft for the first time in awhile.
