Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Following the massive success of Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare it was tough to imagine how Infinity Ward would make this best Call Of Duty yet. There was an exciting buzz in the air leading up to release date and with the game selling 4.7 million copies within the first 24 hours of release, gamers soon found the newest sibling in the Call of Duty series has something special about it.
Those who played Call of Duty 4 would have found the game takes place five years after the previous installment. A new counter-terrorist group, Task Force 141, must fight a Russian ultranationalist terrorist organization and counter a Russian invasion of the , with the help of the United States Armed Forces meaning there is a range of playable characters from the different forces and the campaign stretches over several settings including , , Siberia, and .
The graphics are visually stunning and playing the campaign on a higher difficulty gives you a real sense of urgency bringing the gaming experience to life. There isn't just shoot em' ups on every level, there is a whole new concept of game play on offer and with the different missions there is a range of ways the game is played from operating a mounted turret on a Humvee to chasing suspects across roof tops there really is something for everyone.
Now the real gem in the Call of Duty series is the multiplayer experience, and modern warfare 2 is no exception. The game retains the same experience points as the original and with a whole new concept of customization it gives gamers something new to aim for besides leveling. There is an all new call sign future which enables customizable titles and emblems which are unlocked by completing various challenges and are displayed every time you kill another player. Everything in the campaign has been transferred over to the multiplayer, meaning there is a wide range of new weapons and equipment as well as new perks so creating a class no longer consists of just a primary and secondary weapon, there are attachments and equipment to take into consideration now. If that wasn't enough customization, your kill streak is now customizable as well, and when leveling, 15 new kill streak rewards are available to unlock.
Now then, the campaign and multiplayer would usually be the two modes on a Call of Duty game, but there is the new Special Ops which is playable solo, co-operative locally or with a friend over Xbox Live. There is a total of 23 missions available over the maps from the campaign but do not relate to the campaign directly. Spec Ops is divided into five sections: Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta and Echo. There are 69 stars available in total and upon completion of each operation the stars are rewarded depending on how well the gamer played and what difficulty it was played on.
Following personal completion of the hugely enjoyable campaign and special ops missions my attention has turned to multiplayer. In my opinion, Modern Warfare 2 feels like a whole new game due to all the new features. However, it still manages to successfully tie in as a sequel to the original. With all the new features, this is definitely a game that you enter for the long term, and even through the prestige’s, there are many more things still to unlock and discover.
