This is How a War Game Should Be
Infinity Ward developed this addition to the Call of Duty series.
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare successfully brought the series out of the WWII genre and was everything Call of Duty fans could have hoped for. The big question was, how could Infinity Ward top themselves? Not only does they top themselves but Modern Warfare 2 is easily one of the best war games ever made. The gameplay mechanics see some slight changes but overall everything looks very much the same.
First we have the single player mode. I have to admit, i feel like the last few Call of Duty games have focused more on the multiplayer rather then the story because the story is always very short. Modern Warfare 2 is no different as the story is just barely over four hours long and is probably the least realistic out of all the Call of Duty games. But that's not to say it isn't intense, in fact, it's very intense and is very well written.
The multiplayer mode is once again the big attraction. Infinity Ward keeps all of the things that made the multiplayer great in Call of Duty 4 and adds to it. Obviously there are new maps and they have added a lot to the perks. One of the features that i liked was being able to select the killstreak bonuses, instead of it being already set. The maps are much bigger then Call of Duty 4 but are kept at a size where the matches move at a very fast pace. The ranking system remains pretty much the same. When you rank up you unlock things like killstreak bonuses, weapons and perks. There's also a deathstreak bonus but i haven't really tried it.
Graphically, Modern Warfare 2 is one of the best looking games on the market. The levels are incredibly detailed, the character models are very realistic, and the many visual effects, such as explosions and slow motion shots are very stunnings. There aren't many differences between the three versions from a visual standpoint. The 360 and PS3 look pretty much the same. The PC version, when running on high on all settings, looks slightly better.
The controls remain the same from Call of Duty 4 and World at War. The 360 is a lot easier to control then the other two versions. I highly recommend PC users to use a gamepad for this game, especially when online. The PS3 controls aren't bad but because the analog sticks are placed in the middle of the controller it does make some things harder to do.
Overall, Modern Warfare 2 exceeds all expectations.
