Will we see hacked dedicated servers and mods?
So, do you think we'll see some enterprising programmer release an illicit patch that will allow PC users to run dedicated servers and mods? I'd root for whoever manages this and I'd love to hear what that meeting between the "Herr Activision Fuhrer" and the guys in "Infinity Vard" sounds like when it comes out, though I'd imagine it'd be like:
Bobby Kotick with newly grown toothbrush mustache: "Verdamt! Was sur fick ist dich schiess?! Now zese PC gamers have ze dedicated servers and ze mods vithout giving us zer money!"
Any bets on when we'll see this (and how long the Activision Waffen Schutzstaffel brings down the hammer)?
That's a far cry from making a dedicated server..." I wouldn't be surprised, hacks for multiplayer are already out. "
Anyway. Nobody can answer to you until someone is actually succesful in doing it. I'm sure the intention is there, whether anyone is actually a skilled enough programmer or, it is even something possible to do at all with the available resources, is another matter. I'd love to see it happen and I would even purchase the game if it became commonly used enough, but I'm not holding my breath. For mods, I don't care, plenty of other games are modable, but no dedicated servers cripples the game at hand. Even ignoring the host advantage, host migration, player count, and connection speed issues some pretend don't exist, can you even have matches with custom rules like you can set for private games? All I see in the match making is how to search for a game type, but it doesn't have filters for even a few specific radically different rules like, for example, no lives. Meh.

" Is a comparison between Activision and Hitler really called for? "Bobby and Hitler almost seem like the same guy, it's like Hitler didn't die after all these years.
That video has nothing to do with dedicated servers. They just enabled the console and messed with the settings, it's not like matchmaking makes using this viable outside small friends-only games. They clearly focus on just messing things up than making something useful there. There are some hacks that enable you to connect by IP and possibly disable the host migration for that machine but that's far from a dedicated server also at this stage (as that machine still needs to be a gaming machine and run the actual game and be a listen p2p server, not a dedicated server). Messing with hacks like these won't make actual progress, hopefully some skilled dudes out there are actually working on a real solution.
