IGN Previews Online "King of the Hill" Mode
I like this, i like that they're trying to recreate the "arcade feel"... it would be fun to play with people and boo them and throw tomatoes/cheese at the screen lol
Avatars should not be a deciding factor regarding what system you are going to buy a game on. Also I don't see respect points really working out so great.
I was still on the fence about Mortal Kombat, but this and the live stream from Machinima have sold me.
Is King of the Hill still available for PS3 version?
I don't care if there's avatars or not in my 360 version, I just want a spectator mode. That's right... fuck you, Marvel VS. Capcom 3.
" @Lukeweizer said:He mentions there's PS3 avatars, so the only 360 difference is you get to use your gamertag avatar?" Is King of the Hill still available for PS3 version? I don't care if there's avatars or not in my 360 version, I just want a spectator mode. That's right... fuck you, Marvel VS. Capcom 3. "It says so right in the video. Plus you can make it full screen if you don't want to look at the avatars. "
The basic idea of this mode, the winner-plays-next lobby thing plus a little "respect points" meta game, is neat, and I'll probably spend a good amount of time with it, but I'm not sure I'm into the whole avatar thing. The less visual clutter the better; I want to watch the game, not creepy looking caricatures. Glad you can turn it off.
I have to wonder what "respect points" are and what they will be used for, if anything at all. Do any other fighting games have something that sounds similar?
Don't really care for this at all. I'm hoping that by full screening it you don't see any of the avatars or shit they throw at the screen as I can see that getting pretty annoying. As for the respect points all I imagine after every match is people giving u the lowest possible respect points bc why do they care? I've played enough SSFIV to know that when u kick sumones ass u either get rage quits or hatemail, the days of people saying gg r over. I also wonder how long it'll take for friends to be in line and throw up 4-2-0 as respect points or 6-9 bc that would be soooooooooooo damn "funny" and "original"
I think it's a neat idea but I'd be just fine with being able to spectate matches and use voice chat with other players waiting. I hope it won't just be boo's and tomato spamming. Personally, it is not a factor in my decision on which system to purchase the game for.
I think it's a nice addition to an already great looking fighting game. I'll be getting it for the PS3 soley because I love the PS3 pad for fighting games. Also I think the 360 avatars have the opposite effect on me in that I think they look out of place.
Either way if your an MK fan I think you should be happy;)
I don't like the avatars but if i can make it full screen and i'm able to just watch people fight and just talk with other people like at an arcade is cool to me. Not going to be the main reason i buy MK but it is nice to have.
if its online, it'll probably be all booing and tomato spams with the additional shit talking lol
its definitely not a factor to which platform im getting, but its a nice perk for sure
I think some people are missing the point of this KOTH Avatar gig...
It's not about "sims/avatars hanging together" it's about them actually giving the spectators something to do rather then twiddle their thumbs and fall asleep like you do in other fighters while you wait to play/wait in line *cough SF, DOA, Tekken, MVC*cough*
This is sick, it'll be more personal with 360 because you can take YOUR personally made avatar, where as PSN you just have mini MK avys. Still though, it'll be a fun mode regardless of which console no doubt. And you won't be doing nothing while waiting, you can get involved with comments, respect points, doing things while you wait...
This is actually rather clever, now I bet you other fighters will incorporate something like this in the future. MK did it first, you saw it here! lol
Dead or Alive 4 had an online with a created avatar that you can change costumes, their look, hats, accessories and even what hte avatar was. You get more money to spend on the store from winning games and matches, more xp and money for streaks or tournments. DOA 4 had a lobby where people could roam around in, watch the fight on a tv or actually watch the fight (no one watched the fight in the lobby, kinda laggy) it was really cool and would want to see an expansion to this small metagame
What MK is doing doesnt seem far enough as what DOA4 did but looks really cool

Very much agreed, its a little disappointing to see so many people just writing this off as some stupid gimmick when this will likely be one of the most used features.
" @mkf30: Damn well said my friend. I cant count how many times I have walked away from my ps3 while waiting in an 4-6 player lobby in MvC, hell even when I had SF i would "Thank you sir ;)
" @N7: It is in the PS3 version. It's just that on the 360 it uses the overarching account level avatars. "Well, now I feel like an idiot for deciding not to watch that video then. Damn Mystic River all enticing me and shit. :(
Thanks for the correction, just another reminder that I shouldn't really say anything until I know what I'm talking about.
