One of the goriest fighting game franchises returns to its roots, introducing a new story that re-tells the events of the first three Mortal Kombat games (with a unique twist).
I think this game will be fucking awesome! (Because Ed Boon said so and I can already predict a 5 from Jeff and because I think so too and because of fatalities and because of <>)
Fan service is okay when it means that the game has a higher chance of being balanced and enjoyable, Ed just phrased that a little inappropriately.
Also, I don't care if the X-Ray thing is from The Street Fighter. That's like saying pathos in movies is terrible because novels/tales had it first. I could say dozens of things concerning this new game, but it's hard to concentrate right now.
Sooo...is this yet another thread of Emilio trying to hate on something?
Yeah, it's a fan service game. We've been asking for them to go back to 2D for years. We've also been asking for them to get seriously M-rated about this shit again for years. They listened. Very happy that they did it.
As for the x-ray thing, whatever. It's badass regardless. Death By Degrees also did it, except that game sucked fucking ballsacks.
" I think this game will be fucking awesome! (Because Ed Boon said so and I can already predict a 5 from Jeff and because I think so too and because of fatalities and because of <>) "
Ed Boon has said this about the last 4 games. He's been living off a sliver of nostalgia that he hasn't been able to replicate for years. He's basically saying the same thing he always says only now people care because he stole a bunch of shit from capcom fighters.
I really, really want to be optimistic about this game, and even wrote an entire article about BEING optimistic for it...but there's so much double-talk going on that I'm starting to have my doubts.
"This whole game is really a fan service game." "This is the first Mortal Kombat game that we are actively targeting the more hardcore people..."
And then I had to cringe when EGM asked him if he'd prefer this game to be respected more by casuals or the tournament players.
"Everyone sort of realized that there were some people who couldn't do, you know, [Street Fighter IV ultras], in the midst of a fight. The ones that can do it love it, but when it's all said and done, we want to sell four or five million games."
I can't help but worry that he's going to panic and dumb this one down before release.
Well, the past decade of games haven't been fan service, and they were mostly garbage. If "fan service" is going to make an excellent MK game that's awesome to play and look at, what the fuck is wrong with that?
