I've been using Stryker a lot since I started because no one seems to use him and people often don't know what to expect from him. His dash throw thing is awesome.
I've recently started to learn Sektor now because I wanted to play a teleporter but I'm not too good with him yet. I'm not too good generally but I'm better with Stryker.
I'm finally settling in to Sektor. His timing can be a bit squirly, especially with online the way it is, but he has some good short combos and a real good zoning game. Punishing teleports for 28% is always fun.
I've yet to do a teleport combo more than 19%. I'm just not very good at this game and cant get the timing down. I also find when I'm in a pretty demanding fight that I panic and I either can't think of what buttons to press or my fingers don't obey my commands and I end up missing the moves; the amount of times I've lost a fight after getting them down to <10% health just because I've panicked...
before i went to PDP i mained ermac since he was easy to learn and easily one of the top tier characters.
after PDP i played a whole lot with liu kang and have come to learn everything that he is capable of and his matchup strategy vs many of the roster.
after learning about his bad matchups, i started picking up smoke for his anti fireball and better wakeup EX shake. also his akuma teleport nulifies subzero clones which was making the matchup for liu very difficult so i had to learn someone who was stronger in that matchup.
It's a split between Kitana and Jax, neither of which I'm very good at. I like their quick horizontal movement, which is preferable to repeated jumps or dashes to get around quickly.
Kabal or Sonya, mainly because they are the only ones I can pull moves off with successfully, all the others I just mash buttons until I do somthing cool looking.
Johnny Cage, with Sub-Zero and Scorpion as secondaries. Also trying to learn Reptile and Kenshi, but I only have combos down for those two and not how to implement said combos into battle.
@Taku128: Personally I tend to blank out about combos when I'm out of training, so remembering combos can't even be that big a factor in my character choice :-)
I can see I've posted in this topic about 2 weeks ago, and since then I've have changed my main. At this point my main has become Skarlet over Smoke.
I find her a lot of fun to play and apparently many people online have a hard time dealing with her 'red dash'.
I do generally mix it up as far as character-selection go in 1 vs 1 player match... Well, If I've been winning at least. I tend to rotate Skarlet, Smoke, Sub-Zero, Reptile and (lately) Kitana... Also I've begun dabbling in Kano lately also. I'm not sure why, but I had some success with him in dealing with some Ermac-players... Something I still have a hard time to deal with generally.
Not exactly three sleeper picks. But I love using these characters. Kitana is, like, a "sub-main" for me. I'm competent enough to make matches competitive, but I wouldn't use her if I had to win in the clutch.
He's really, really good in this game. The only thing stopping me from getting into him is the obligation to learn the online favorites like scorpion, smoke and liu kang, whenever I use his possession. But the way he starts up combos from across the screen is crazy.
