    Overview

Mithril is a fictional metal that originated in J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings novel. The shiny metal is stronger than steel and extremely light. Mythril is rare, so objects made from it are very expensive and highly sought after. In the fantasy setting, mithril is an ideal material for crafting armor as it offers a great deal of protection and places little burden on the wearer.

    Mithril in Games

Mithril gear often appears in fantasy role-playing games as late-stage equipment. Mithril armor or swords may be awarded as loot, or may be available for sale in high-priced item shops for high-level characters who want to deck themselves out in the best equipment possible.
