Word of NBA Elite 11's indefinite postponement, and as a result, NBA Jam HD's new forthcoming holiday 2010 standalone release (!), was apparently as much of a surprise to the creators of NBA Jam as it did to us. Now, EA Canada is reportedly in the unenviable position of trying to plop as much stuff as possible into the HD PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the soon-to-be-released Wii game in the face of a new deadline.
Among the things being added? Remix Tour and a less mundane online component, according to creative director Trey Smith in a recent radio interview with Toronto-based sports show Got Game (via NIntendo World Report).

"We got this bomb dropped on us just a couple days ago, as well," Smith said. "So we're shuffling to get everything together, but we got a great team; we got a lot of stuff up and working; we're gonna polish it up; we're gonna get it out there before holidays." (Via Joystiq.)

EA Sports' big boss Peter Mooreconfirmed speculation that NBA Elite 11 was being hit with a significant delay just last week, mere hours after retailers started pulling down listings for the sports title. In a blog post on the subject, Moore added that the game's pack-in, the HD version of NBA Jam, would be instead be offered as a standalone release this holiday.

    No Caption Provided

== TEASER ==Moore neglected to go into specifics about what would be offered in NBA Jam HD as a standalone release, but thanks to the previous announcement of the game, we know what was supposed to be in the original version of the port: an online mode, a classic campaign tournament mode, and a "Play Now" competitive offline feature. The Wii version of NBA Jam includes a beefier campaign component called Remix Tour, a tournament-style mode that features boss battles against NBA legends. This feature omission alone is why we referred to NBA Jam HD in its original incarnation as a watered-down version of the game.

In his post, Moore also didn't confirm if NBA Jam HD was going to remain a digital download. Smith neglected to talk about that, too. But Smith did reveal that Remix Tour will be included in the HD versions of the game, bringing a little feature parity that would be sorely needed if, say, NBA Jam HD were to be sold as a normal retail, standalone release. You've got to justify that full price, right?

"I'll tell you, we're doing everything in our power to get as much in there as possible. We had online up. It was a really basic online feature set. We're trying to blow that out. And then you get Remix. We're trying to throw it all in there," Smith added. By "all," he means Bill Clinton, right?

Just so you know, NBA Jam Beta was leaked a couple days ago along with a DLC (unlock key) for Remix mode etc. It's around 1 GB and is an XBLA game.

Well, most awesome then. It was going to be a first-day purchase when it was released on the 360 anyway (even a gimped version) but now, I'm glad that we're getting the entire package. I do feel bad for the lack of online multiplayer for the Wii version, but they get the game before I do so whatever.

I am feeling fine getting it on the Wii since I dont feel the need to play this game online. NBA Jam seems like a game that is played against a friend on the same console. Also I dont know how the game is enhanced with better graphics since the art design is not built towards realism. Aw fuck I would rather have it on the 360 but dont feel like waiting.

Although this is all great news I'm extremely worried about this hitting retail at a ridiculous price point of $59.99. Online and Remix just don't warrant this being anything but a $20 arcade title, tops.

I think that for Ps3/360, a box copy is doom at this point. I wouldn't buy a boxed copy, honestly no more than a $15-20 DL.

So...if they are adding everything that the $50 Wii version is getting, none of you are willing to buy it for about the same price? Even with higher resolution graphics and better online? I'm not quite understanding this.

So they're basically going to cram everything that they can into the game in the span of two months?  Understandably, a lot of this work was already in the Wii version, but is that really enough time to polish the game for release on the other platforms?  This has "shoddy port" written all over it.

this might be the best news i've heard all year.  I was really disappointed when they announced it as a pack in for Elite 11.  Now I can just buy the 360 version instead of the low res, bad online Wii version.

I am not getting this game on anything. The wii version has no online so no deal. And the hd versions may sound better but the stuff they are talking about adding to the game takes time. And they say they want to get it out by holiday 2010. Am I the only one here who knows this is not going to be good. When games are rushed they are not good. So all of you saying "yeah" now, may be sobbing later when you play the game and it is consistently freezing and crashing. Only if they would just release the bare bones game as dlc on psn/xbl for $15, would the nba jam problem finally be solved.

That is what made the original NBA Jam special. I had a friend who didn't care for basketball or sports in general but he got hooked on it just because of how off the wall it was.

I am keeping my eye on it but its not something I would spend $60 on especially if they are trying to rush it out the door.
