Do y'all think these missteps by EA will lead to the return of NFL2K on 720 & PS4
NBA Live 13
Game » consists of 0 releases.
After two years off (and a cancelled name change), NBA Live was set to return for the 2012-2013 NBA season before it was officially cancelled on September 27, 2012. This marks the third year in a row that EA did not release an NBA simulation game.
So 2K got NBA exclusivity this gen WITHOUT paying for it ;-)
@SethPhotopoulos: the OP said that this might lead to a return of NFL2k on next gen consoles but it cant because EA owns the rights

I still don't get why he said it. Is he saying that EA will fuck up and fail to attain the rights to the NFL as well and it'll fall to 2K? That's not what it looks like he's saying.

And just locked it up for another long while... can't remember just how long, though. Unless there's some out in the contract, that won't be legally possible.
The NFL is making so much money now. The deal expires next year so maybe we can get NFL 2k back, and because the NFL does make so much money, I think we will see it. They could get EA to buy the rights, but instead, charge them for licensing and charge 2k for licensing too and make lots more money off it since Madden will still sell and it is too big for EA to give up. And the NFL would be dumb to leave 2ks licensing money on the table.
@TheHBK: The whole point is that EA is willing to pay more than what 2k is willing to pay for the license both of them combined. It would not be more profitable for the NFL if 2k isn't willing to pay more.

It does beg the question though - can EA, given how badly they've fucked up so many "sure bets" over the past couple years (say for example, almost everything with the Bioware name attached to it solely from a sales perspective) afford to pay that much to cut out the competition again? I'm not so sure...
I know that Pro Evolution Soccer games (or Winning Eleven, depending on where you live) don't have a ton of licensed teams, unlike the FIFA games, so they often have to make up names of teams and players. That's pretty silly.
Is it the same thing with the 2K NBA games, since apparently they aren't licensed?

No. The 2K games are straight-up sims. Licensed teams and players and arenas and everything.
