The FIFA series began life in 1993, and although there had been several soccer games released before it, FIFA International Soccer was the first game to ever feature the official license from FIFA, the governing world body for soccer. This gave EA unprecedented rights to player names and likenesses which it's opponents have been unable to match.
The game has been released annually for the last 17 years, with spin off titles also being released to coincide with major soccer tournaments.
