Nice. I think I'll pick one up sometime this year, then.
Nintendo 3DS
Platform »

Nintendo Slashes 3DS Price to $169.99, Early Adopters Get Free Games
The market has changed. Young kids either have/ want ITouch or hand me down Iphones and other smart phones. They don't want the 3DS, sorry Nintendo. The Wii U is going to be a massive fail also. Nintendo must change with the market of Smartphone gaming or get left behind.
I like free...*hugs my3DS*
Also, I'm not too mad at my purchase, I'm playing Zelda and Street Fighter at the moment, and they get a good sessions out of me, but it would be cool to see something new come around as I have no interest in Startfox 3D(especially after how Brad described the multiplayer)

so Nintendo is pretty much saying F U to the early adopters .
YEAH! Just like Apple does! OMG! :eyeroll:
So current owners can just pretend they paid $170 for the 3DS itself and put down another $80 for all those games... Which they may or may not even get.
Whatever the case, at least now I have a definite date of when I'll be getting a 3DS of my own. Not worried about games, since I never had a DS before; huge backlog to explore right now.
The price drop is tempting if you want a 3DS RIGHT NOW but I hope people who held off on buying at launch aren't fooled. You should be waiting for the next hardware revision, not this. Unless you actually want a 3-5 hour battery life.
What does connecting to eShop mean? I've downloaded that free Pokemon 3D thing and and the Excitebike thing. Does that mean I'm connected?
this is why i held out, no games, poor sales.... significant price drop was obviousI would have predicted something closer to a $50 drop closer to the holidays. Historically Nintendo doesn't get this aggressive this quick. Definitely got me closer to a purchase.

Price is still too high.
Dude, it's new tech. What do you want?
Well, obviously I want a lower price. Also, why should I pay 170$ for the system and 40$ per game when I can have just as much fun on my phone for .99$ or free?
Huh, still seems $60 too much.
Once it hits that magical $99 price point I'm all over it, but I have a feeling waiting for the 3DS lite might be what I'm going to do.
Also, my DS Lite also plays GBA games Nintendo, and I don't have to rebuy them. WHAT NOW HUH. :P
Glad to se they didn't completely screw the early adopters (also glad I resisted being an early adopter this time ( I bought the original PSP and DS day one...sold them both off rather quick lol))
I don't believe for a second those GBA games are going to stay exclusive to the ambassadors though, I bet it's 6 months timed exclusive, maybe a year.
3DS has not lit the world on fire in the same way DS did. You can blame your smartphone for that.
No, I blame the $250 price tag.
" "Nintendo currently has no plans to make these 10 games available to the general public on the Nintendo 3DS in the future," reads the press release."
Which means I won't be buying a 3DS at it's reduced price either. Fuck you Nintendo.

I'm yet to find an iPhone game which I'd classify as just as good as a traditionally developed IP like the stuff you'll get on a proper handheld. Sure there may be good games coming but there is no way they'll be 99c. Different experiences.@LeetBalla said:

The games I can get on my Phone though fulfill the same purpose as a 3DS would though. I just want something that can keep me entertained in my downtime away from home. Most handheld games being released now are just console games on the small screen. Why would I want that in 2011?
This maybe incentive for me to get a 3DS, depends on if some of the games coming out later this year deliver.
"Nintendo currently has no plans to make these 10 games available to the general public on the Nintendo 3DS in the future."
This is why I hesitate to call myself a Nintendo fan anymore. GBA was the best Nintendo handheld...what, do they hate money? Screw you guys...
Those games are definitely coming to download publicly eventually. I'm glad Nintendo is not only slashing the price but awarding those that jumped in this potential failure of a handheld early on.
Pilotwings
Ocarina of Time 3D
Starfox 64 3D
Super Mario 3D
Mario Kart 3D
Kid Icarus
(nintendogs, skyward sword)
all in this year !!!
this is like one of the best years for Nintendo in terms of ridiculous and awesome games. I can not complain, if people don't buy it, it is because they are stupid
I work at my local Wal-Mart. 169.00 is the current price of our DSiXL's. I will tell all my customers who are interested in a 3DS but not the current price (249.00) about this and sell who shows up around August 12th to get one.
