Nintendo was founded in Kyoto, Japan in 1889 as a manufacturer of hanafuda playing cards. The company went through several small niche businesses before becoming a video game company.
Notes from Nintendo Direct: Sonic Exclusives, Wonderful 101 Release Date, Game Gear Games on 3DS
@mijati: Of course not, they're not announcing anything "big" until E3.
Hex based world? I'm calling it: Sonic Lost World will be a 4X game.
There is already a Sonic Bioware RPG, so maybe?
...nah. Couldn't be.
Sonic is going to crash that plane into that game of Civilization V.
Yeah, my very first thought on looking at that screenshot was that nintendo was getting a civ game.
Wow, is the Luigi game/DLC really called "New Super Luigi U". Jesus man, and here I thought they couldn't come up any worse titles anymore.
Nintendo, always full of surprises!
The Luigi thing actually sounds pretty neat. Apparently it's meant to be significantly more difficult than NSMB: U.
This was the first Nintendo direct ive watched, have to say I was underwhelmed. I really hope they've got more WiiU software coming and soon.
They've already announced through Twitter that they'll have another Nintendo Direct in June, closer to E3, that will discuss games that haven't been seen before.
The new Nintendo and SEGA partnership almost feels like a commentary on where Nintendo is at. I don't know. It just gives me an odd feeling.
@rudecubes: For the record, if this ever happened, it only happened to Sonic Unleashed, which is at best "all right." Colors and Generations reviewed pretty well, and Sonic '06 deserved more shitting upon than it received.
Also, yay on dates! Pretty sure I'm not gonna be near a Best Buy with one of those E3 demo Wii Us.
P.S.
@little_socrates: Oh, it definitely happened with Generations.
@rudecubes: Not to obsess over numbers, but Sonic Generations is hovering around a 77 Metacritic score, which indicates that it was definitely not "slammed" in reviews. That's totally respectable, and higher than I expected/would give the game myself. It didn't pick up a lot of press, but that's because it was just a pretty all right Sonic game coming out against Rayman Origins (a really, truly great 2D platformer, which is hovering around an 87 Metacritic) and Skyrim (the game that stole all the press everywhere.) Not the exact same week as those two games, but roughly the same time period.
If Generations were coming out earlier in the year, it probably would've gotten more attention, but its reception was a bit above lukewarm; definitely not "trashed." Granted, there are some people who lump all modern Sonic in a ghetto as "bad games," but those who actually played Generations dug it pretty okay. Or, well, the exact same thing that happened with Colors, only the receptive audience was a bit more widespread.

all sonic games have completely lost their value after being in about 15 different sega/sonic collection games. really who doesn't have/hasn't played sonic 1 and 2 at this point
This is Sonic 1 and 2 for the game gear...
They're different games with completely different level designs.
I'm willing to bet a lot less people have played them... or any of the other Sonic Game Gear Games.
Put sonic on a extremely long hiatus at this point and resurrect it once you can make it fun again. On the other hand, has sonic ever been a fun franchise?
