    Tribal refinement

Patapon 2 does what a sequel ought, providing new missions, unit classes, enemies and minigames while revising the aspects of the game that didn't work so well in the original.  The adorable art and catchy music remain the same and work just as well as they ever did, and with the improvements rounding out some of the earlier rough edges, Patapon 2 becomes a more appealing package overall.

The creation (and now evolution) of your Patapon soldiers is now much easier and less hidden by trial and error.  No more do you have to consult faqs and charts to figure out what matierials make what Rarepon, or go into the equipment menu to sqash a unit so you can replace it.  Now a straightfoward evolution tree charts each individual unit's progress towards more powerful forms.  Once you've unlocked a Rarepon form for a unit, you can switch back and forth as much as you like without having to completely replace the unit each time.  This lets you switch up your forces to suit your needs much more easily.  you can also now level up each Rarepon into more powerful versions, enhancing their particular stats and special abilities.

Another much needed addition comes with the Bell minigame, which lets you convert unwanted materials into Ka-Ching, giving you another way to build up cash while ending the inventory bloat that came from being unable to sell items in the original Patapon.

Hero units with masks and special attacks, multiplayer quests, and an easy mode to help keep the timing-impaired  from constantly losing fever status round out the package and add value for both new and veteran players.

Does this title stack up to its quirky predecessor? The answer is “yes“, but almost to a fault. Hardcore fans will appreciate the slight improvements to the overall experience, but some lingering iss...

      Patapon 2 Review 0

If you own a PSP, you should own Patapon 2. If you don’t own a PSP, you should start considering one. Patapon 2 is that good. The incredibly cutesy, challenging and addictive rhythm/action/puzzle title will have you hooked from start to finish and should be in any self respecting gamer’s library. The Patapon series sees you controlling your own army of the titular Patapons. You act as their deity, relaying battle commands to them through a war drum, with each of the 4 PlayStation face buttons act...
