The PC (Personal Computer) is a highly configurable and upgradable gaming platform that, among home systems, sports the widest variety of control methods, largest library of games, and cutting edge graphics and sound capabilities.
My first pick has to be StarCraft. My bro Jay got me into it, and I haven't looked back since. My second fave has to be Rise of Nations. SOooooooo many fun MP times on there.

To be honest, I also loved Rise of Nations. It's definately one of my favorite RTS's. I always liked racing the other players to getting a nuke lol. I just have a special connection with SC. It has always been there as a fallback game when there was nothing else to play at the time.
for me personally... i'd have to say its been the commander and conquer series.... i cant say that CnC3 was the best out of the lot because of the ammount i spent on the previous ones lol.... but it'd definately be right up there with the best along with supreme commander
This is impossible. Picking one RTS that is hands down my favorite....i cant do it. But i can say that The Westwood developed CnC games were all epic, as was blizzards Starcraft and warcraft. Those would get my nod....(get it, NOD)
Rise of Nations is still my favorite RTS. I still have it installed and will run though scenarios every now and again. For those of you who haven't played RON checked it out!!! I couldn't recommend it any higher. - Redgauss
The original C&C and Red Alert (the first) were hands down my all time favourites, maybe Dune II battle for Arrakis too going way back. Limited spice, limited number of units on screen, there was actually some strategy required instead of spamming the enemy. Carryalls are sweet too.
But then Starcraft came along, excellent game, an instant classic for me. Current favourite for sure.
Total War series gets an honourable mention but due to the turn based parts of the game I don't think it qualifies for pure RTS status, good hybrid though.
Well I like the Dawn of War series, but after playing Company of Heroes, the latest game in DoW: Soulstorm feels now mechanically old. Does anyone know, is World in Conflict that good?
Starcraft may be good, but I would say that DoW was one of the greatest strategy games. When I say one I mean that there are many greatest strategy games for example in the post above me Total War. So it's like generation of games each have their own greatest strategy game.
Im really not much of an RTS fan, but the last RTS game that i really enjoyed was C&C: Generals, i used to play that game for a long time even though i suck at RTS's.
My favorite RTS at the moment is Company of Heroes. I like how the gameplay is focused on edging out in a combat situation, very action oriented. I have to admit though that the Age of Empires series drew me into the RTS genre. Starcraft is, of course, a classic but I just never really got into the sci-fi kinda stuff.
