    @Red12b:
Id suggest a better PSU, Antec/Seasonic and Corsair all are well priced. Eg -  Corsair TX-650 650W
Better RAM aswell, Kingston/Corsair and G.Skill are all very good.
And if you want this to last upwards of five years, you may want to look into a better GPU set up, ie 460x2 or get a cheap one now and wait for the upcoming 6xxx series either for price drops or a 6xxx card.

Er, not really sure what the prices are like in NZ, but that is a terrible value build in USD. Probably not worth more than ~$600 USD. Can you link to a local wholesale distributor of yours so that correct pricing can be determined?

I'd suggest a bigger power supply (and maybe a better graphics card).

And if those are USDs then holy shit you're getting played.

HD5750? That's the wrong card to get, it won't last you more than half a year. Here is a chart with all the videocards and you can see how it compares. I say get a HD5870 (sure there will be new ati cards like in a few months I think, I don't follow ati products or care. I mean if that's your budget, you can probally build that amd stuff for less than a grand, then add a $400 gpu) or get a gtx460 1gb which I use and can run everything well enough for only $240 or less. Of course you get less power.  Whoever is selling you that pc is ripping you off, you must have great friends because he's going to make a profit, like half the price or more.

About the SSD drive, I also use a 64gig one, you can't fit many games on it, it's only for the operating system and a few programs like photoshop. Also for the second drive, you don't not get a green drive for storage, that's always the third drive, the second drive needs to be a western digital cavier black 64mb, not green. Green drives are like 5400 rpm, that's slower than most 7200rpm drives. That would be the drive for your steam folder and pc games. In fact you probally don't even need a third green drive if you aren't getting that many games. Like I said you friend is ripping you off, I don't think you can get anymore ripped off than that. I dare you to buy that pc.

The price seems a little steep, honestly. My machine is similar and I got it about a year and a half ago for slightly less. I would look around at places like Newegg and TigerDirect to compare prices.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure my price also included a monitor and speakers, which yours most likely doesn't.

@Geno:  Nah the SSD is 64 GB, and then he's got a regular old 1 TB drive in there for storage. You would only be able to fit a few games on the SSD with this.

No it's not. It is an SSD which is why the size is so small.

Right, I was looking at the wrong thing. To be fair his HDD does have 64MB cache, which is what confused me. I kind of just skipped from the "HD 5750" to "$1600-$1700" part before posting lol.

    Oh damn...

the 1'700 is NZD, that's around 1'300 USD...

Luckily I posted this then, ok, so, if I go back to him with what you guys suggest with a price, I can see what his reaction is like, and to be fair, I don't think he is ripping me off, it might be that his supplier is shit.

    Help is appreciated guys, thanks.

So yeah, budget is roughly 1.3k to 1.5k USD

Dude that's looking a little pricey. I'd suggest just putting in the extra hour or two online to build your own rig, it's ridiculously easy these days. Just look up the components you need, and then look up a quick guide like  this one. Just off the top of my head I'd say you can set up the same rig for < 900 bucks USD, meaning a little extra cash for a sweeter graphics card :P

If you really don't want to bother though, I'd say just invest in a better graphics card and try to work your friend down on the overall price. Good luck!

I just very quickly put together a build that you can base yours off from a single website, so definatly can find it cheaper if you want to buy from multiple places or strike a deal with a shop to buy them all at once, comes out to 1062AUD from and Australian store, so 1375NZD without OS/SSD/CD drive and shipping -

    hdd - 3.5" SATA 1TB 64MB WD  - 69
    ram - DDR3 4GB kit 1600 G.Skill C9 - 135
    case - Gaming Case Lancool PC-K60  - 125
    psu - Corsair TX-650 650W - 120
    gpu - VGA (nV) GTX460 1GB OC GA - 259
    cpu - Intel Quad Core i5-760 (S1156) - 222
    mobo - Asus P7P55D-LE - 132

And now your one redone with better GPU/PSU/RAM and without the OS/SSD/CD drive and shipping that comes out to 1292NZD from multiple New Zealand stores (searched from http://www.staticice.co.nz/index.html  )-

    hdd - Western Digital Caviar Green WD10EARS 64MB 1TB - 85
    ram - Corsair CMX4GX3M2A1600C8 4GB - 166
case - CoolerMaster CM Storm Scout - 172
    psu - Corsair TX-650 - 167
    gpu - Asus NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 1GB - 334
cpu - AMD Phenom II X4 Processor Black Edition - 217
    mobo - Gigabyte GA-880GM-USB3 - 151

Look don't use a HD5750 if you heard nothing I said, that's a rip off for so little power, have some dignity and us a hd5770 at the very least. Consider a gtx460 1gb instead since you want a card you don't have to upgrade Also don't use green drives as your second drives, also you will have no room to use an SSD drive for games, I don't use it with games on mine. Use a western digital black instead that's 64mb sata 3 as a second drive. He is ripping you off, I built my pc for a grand, it would be only $1240 with the videocard, I recycled the display, powerwatt supply and also my mouse and keyboard was on sale before which I recycled. The phenom X4 is worthless, I can't belive he is making you pay so much for it. Go back and ask for these changes and to lower the price.

You should do some research and get more familar with the products before you make a decision. It's like starting a business without any business knowledge and hiring someone to be your accountant that can easily rip you off without you knowing. That's what he is doing, don't think for a second your not getting totally ripped off because you are. He's maximizing his profit almost 40% of what it's really worth if you built it yourself.

Your whole system is a bottleneck and if he offered me these prices with these specs, I would punch him in the face.

I think you would get better performance out of something like this, but building it yourself will always knock off a little money.

I don't care what others do, and I don't condone the ridiculous prices for software, I also don't condone DRM, but I like to pay for what I receive.

@Red12b:   That PC build looks like it has about a 30% markup.  Either he's putting around 20% on top of a mass market parts retailer pricing or he's just outright overpricing his good.  Either way, he's robbing you.  Most parts retailers make around 8% per internal case part (CPU, RAM etc), around %30 on accessories (mice etc) and 100% on media.  The average build cost is usually $50-75.  Most of the parts he's quoting you on are entry level and cheap to purchase.

    @Red12b:

I was browsing some NZ retailers for you:-

    PCOnlineShop.co.nz

     AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 965 3.4GHz with 4GB Gaming System :  $1,419.00

    1 x AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 965 3.4GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 125W Black Edition
    1 x Gigabyte GA-890XA-UD3 AMD Socket AM3 ATX AMD 790X + SB850 Chipset DDR3 1866 Cross Fire Support PCI-E x 16 6xSATA3 Raid GB Lan USB3.0
    1 x Kingston ValueRam 4GB 1333MHz DDR3 Non-ECC CL9 DIMM
    1 x Seagate 1TB 7200rpm 32MB SATAII Hard Drive Special
1 x Asustek DRW-2014L1T SATA LightScribe DVD Writer- OEM Version
    1 x ATI HD 5770 PCI-E 2.0 1GB 128-bit DDR5, 850/4800 MHz, DVI/ HDMI/ Display Port, DX11, Fan
1 x Antec Three Hundred ATX Tower Case
1 x Thermaltake 600W ATX PSU Retail Box
    1 x Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit OEM 1PK DVD
1 x Computer assemble and test

Add the A-RAM SSD ULTRA 64GB 2.5" MLC SSD @ $283 .  This drive is faster than the one you were quested as it supports SATA3 which your motherboard can use, so the drive will not be limited by SATA2 connectivity.

As you can see, priced competitively with your quoted system but comes with a better gfx card and faster CPU.

That wasn't the only competitive price I found too.  Browse around on some of these sites:-

    Elive
    ETC

The thing is if you can find better prices without much effort (I spent like 5-10 mins) and the places also sell parts too then you should be able to get a much better deal if you shop around more.

Personally, I recommend an Intel Core i5 760 / Nvidia 460GTX based machine for better performance and longevity but really that's up to you.

@Red12b: It says on the newegg site, it's $134 USD for the fastest SSD sata 3 drive around. This drive needs to be connected to the sata 3 port of your mobo, also you need to in bios enable AHCI mode under SATA. If you enable it afterwards, your hardrive will crash and go into an endless loop. I thought I save you the trouble now giving you this info. Remember to install your operating system into this drive if you decide to get an SSD drive.

@Red12b: It's american money on that site. I hope you can find that SSD drive in new zealand or where ever your from. All I know is that it's the fastest drive i've ever seen for a SSD sata 3 drive. If you can import pc parts, that would be ideal.

I just googled a new zealand store and notice how high the prices are. For my SSD drive it's $241, that's more than double of what I paid for. It's still like $180 to the money here converted, that's still very expensive. I'm honestly not sure if that guy is ripping you off or not because everything is expensive at new zealand. Keep that in mind compared to the same product you can get in the states, however maybe it's just more expensive and you have to pay alot more for a good pc there.

Even if you are not getting ripped off because of the inflation of the prices there, you should at least get a better videocard than that, it's too meager. Other ppl should also keep that in mind, NZ and american prices are different, maybe we can't expect the same price, yet the videocard is too weak regardless.

the initial build is a bit unbalanced , a cpu capable of everything , but a gpu thats a tad on the short side when it comes to higher resolutions, since you are going to build a whole computer , i suggest you wait for the 6000 series that are due to be out in about a month.
