As the title says, I'm looking for a game like X3 but where you can move on the ground or space stations maybe with ground combat. Preferably on steam.

Didn't privateer do that shit? Also Fontier Elite.  I forget. Either way, I've been waiting for Egosoft to make a game like that for some time, and X2 and X3 were both huge dissapointments in that realm of space games. While X2 was still pretty great for what it was, X3 is just fucking beyond awful. They need to seriously get their act together and make a better space game. I mean, if a game running on DOS can make more realistic space, space combat, planetary landings, full newtonian space physics etc. etc. on 1000 lines of code, then shouldn't we have all this shit in the next generation by now? Apparently not the case. Fuck.

theres a game called Battlecruiser Millenium which i think you can even get for free on the internet. I havent played it but apparently it is an amazingly ambitious (and amazingly broken) space combat/trading game thing where i believe you can walk around planets as well. These games usually have communities that support them so maybe it is not broken anymore?

@keyhunter: Programming things like that using 3D models is much harder then with old vector meshes.

Haha, I'm in beta and that is actually the reason I'm looking for a better experience. Although with the new patch, things seem to be getting better.
