Follow-up to tournament #2, since Giant Bomb community P4A tournaments seem like they're going to be a monthly thing, I thought I might as well post a notice for the next one. I'm thinking that this will take place on the weekend of October 6-7. Tournament's only open to PS3 players.

Rules:

• The tournament will be played in a double elimination format, so players will need to lose a match twice to be eliminated.
• Matches will be best 2 out of 3 rounds for 99 seconds each round. Winner will be best 2 out of 3 matches.
• Semi-finals (Losers and Winners bracket) and grand finals will be best 2 out of 3 rounds for 99 seconds each round. Winner will be best 3 out of 5 matches.
• A player that loses a match is allowed to switch characters, however a player who wins must choose the same character as his previous match.
• If a player drops during a round, it is up to the opponent to decide if he agrees to do a rematch or not.
• Saving a replay of your matches is recommended, because if there is a dispute between two players as to who actually won and no one provides proof, I'll have to disqualify both of the players for the sake of fairness.

Sign-ups will be on Challonge like last time. This is to prevent people who say they'll be participating in the tourney but don't show up. You'll need a Challonge account to do this, so sign up for one here if you don't have one. Try to name your Challonge account as closely as you can to your GB username to avoid confusion.

Reason I'm requiring Challonge accounts is because players will be able to report the results of their matches themselves instead of having to constantly update the brackets myself.

When

Tournament starts on Saturday, October 6th and ends on Sunday, October 7th. The tournament should start at 12:00 PM EDT like the previous times.

Official Challonge sign-ups will be open on October 5th from 5:00 PM EDT / 2:00 PM PDT to October 6th, 12:00 PM EDT / 9:00 AM PDT. So players should arrive and sign up on the page before the limit or else they won't be included in the bracket and won't be able to participate in the tournament. Signing up doesn't take long to do at all, so this shouldn't be a problem.

I'll post the sign-up page on September 15th and the bracket will be posted after the sign-up page is closed.

I'm thinking that a modification I should make to the bracket of this tournament is giving byes to those who have demonstrated that they're above average in terms of skill in the previous tournaments (if that's even an option on Challonge), from @DolphinButter's suggestion. Do you guys think this is an idea worth pursuing?

So based on peoples' response, I will give byes to top players in the bracket.

Discussion at the time of the tournament will take place in the all-encompassing GB P4A tournamentdiscussion threadlike last time. To coordinate matches when the tournament takes place, participants should go tohttp://giantbombing.com/chat/ and put the channel "#GB_P4A". There'll probably be casuals going on in that chat leading up to the tournament, too.

And yeah, I think we're starting to have tiers among us showing up. You, yuut and jon don't need to crush some poor beginners in the early rounds. Save that for us intermediates. And then you crush us.

Maybe take the winning percentage of entrants from the first two tournaments? Like I'm 1-2 and 3-2, so 50%. Jon is like 11-2 so there's that. New guys have to start at 0%.

I'd like to say that I'm really proud of you guys and how active our community is concerning Persona 4 Arena. After seeing that the most recent NeoGAF tournament only has 6 people participating; that Mayonaka Midnight, the big fansite for P4A, had 4 people and 13 people, respectively, for the 360 tournament and PS3 tournament back in August; and that there were 15 people in the local tournament I went to today, I'm pretty happy about the participation in our monthly P4A tournaments.

Wouldn't be surprised if we've had the biggest Persona 4 Arena online tournaments so far.
