So I've decided. Those who will be part of the team are:

  1. FluxWaveZ
  2. aznjon12
  3. MDYu
  4. _Soki_
  5. gravitypenguin
  6. Xomero
  7. IrrelevantJohn
  8. Liquidus
  9. YI_Orange
  10. Brodehouse
  11. InfiniteSpark
  12. Servantey

I also tried to order us by what I perceive is our P4A skill level. This is not the order in which our team will be "deployed", it's just so that things might be easier to visualize. Our final team order will have to be set at some point before the 17th.

I hate to do this and I'm really sorry, but TheFakePsychic, Keystone_Yinzer, Bloo561 and Commisar123 won't be a part of the GB team. If someone from the main team doesn't make it, I'll be sure to contact one of you to replace them.

I have a prize for whoever lasts the longest/wins the most rounds (GB Team only). The monetary equivalent of a digital copy of Persona 4 Golden in PSN gift cards.

That's really nice of you; I'll add it to the OP. I'm a bit iffy on this prize, though, since this is a team effort and it could be weird if the pointman for our team eliminates half of the opposing team or something crazy, but it could still motivate people.

How does the GB team stand any chance of winning? Those other guys have all the FAQs!

#55 Edited by YI_Orange (1124 posts) -

@FluxWaveZ: I don't have any strong opinions where most people should be placed, but if we should be at all concerned about losing, I would put you or Jon at the front(first or second, MAYBE 3rd) and the other at the end. Possibly strategically placed MDYu and Soki around the two of you as well.

Anyway, I gotta practice up! If you know of any good resources(other than dustloop) for learning shit I would love to know about them. I looked into some combo videos, but they were largely useless. I went into training, turned bot recovery options on, and found that most of the good combos were impossible to pull off. Right now in general I'm just working on trying to punish people who jump a lot and not being so terrified of hyper-aggressive Chies. Trying to figure out some openers for the Sukukaja Auto combo too, to squeeze a bit more damage out of it. Launching them with 2C and running over to catch them seems pretty good, but is a little weird. I also want to learn to use moonsaults practically without the spring dash lead-in, but that's low on my priority list.

I'm also willing to spar with anyone if I'm around. Even if I were to go 0-100 with Flux's Shabrys maybe I'd learn something.

Edit - About the prize: We could always decide as a team who should get it. I mean, if someone practically all-kills I don't think anyone would argue that they deserve it.

@YI_Orange: Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Either me or aznjon as one of the first members with the other being one of the last as a safeguard. Same thing with MDYu and Soki.

And yeah, deciding on our team's MVP could be a way of deciding who the prize goes to; that sounds good.

Helpful resources for Yosuke:

That's pretty much all you need. I'd recommend getting as far as you can in Yosuke's challenge mode as, even if you're not going to use the weird combos that can be present in that mode, it will help your execution with that character considerably and understand the properties of his attacks more. Spending time messing around in training mode and recording a character doing stuff you have trouble with (such as blocking against Mitsuru, which was something I had trouble with) can also help.

#57 Posted by Brodehouse (9519 posts) -

I'll say, strategically keep Soki and MDYu apart, same with Serv, Xom and Sparks, so that we can kind of prevent running into a bad anti-Yu or anti-Chie matchup. (Does John play Chie too?)

Also, I'd say stagger between the high talent and low talent, as a way of getting some extra looks at whoever we're fighting. Lead off with a sacrifice to see what they're bringing. Then bring the heat at 2, 4, so on. Maybe even catch them getting complacent if they just creamed me, and then they get a tough one against grav or jon or whathaveyou.

Probably shouldn't post that public but whatever.

Is there a certain character that the folks at GFAQ use that we should be worried about?

#59 Posted by FluxWaveZ (19305 posts) -

@IrrelevantJohn: The best player over there uses Kanji. There's also a powerful Mitsuru player that almost sent me into the losers bracket in the GB tourney #3.

Hmmmmm, Kanji can only be so annoying and ugh, Mitsuru :*(

#61 Posted by MDYu (36 posts) -

Yup, I have to learn the Kanji match up, and that Mitsuru player eliminated me from tourney # 3 but I'm sure we could beat him. I'll get some practice on the weekend or spar with anyone :)

Also, should we have a cool team name?

#62 Posted by FluxWaveZ (19305 posts) -

@MDYu said:

I think "Team Giant Bomb" will be just fine for this.

I'm not too worried about that Mitsuru player as I've gotten better at dealing with Mitsurus and, after all, I did beat him last time. However, playing a bit of P4A today I felt as though I somehow got worse at playing and that worried me. It might be because I didn't sleep at all last night, so I'll try again tomorrow.

#63 Posted by YI_Orange (1124 posts) -

@FluxWaveZ: It happens. I'm nowhere near as good as you but there are days where I feel that all my skill is just gone.

Also, if they have any Teddies I need some serious help with that matchup. Brode kicked my ass so hard last night and Yosuke vs. Teddie has me a bit lost.

@MDYu: I'd like to get some practice in with you if we're around at the same time. I could use some Yu practice, plus, I felt good about my last showing against you, so I wanna see if it was just dumb luck.

#64 Posted by Liquidus (946 posts) -

@MDYu: I'd also love to get some practice against you. I did a lot better against you in the past tournament than the one before it.

#65 Edited by MDYu (36 posts) -

: Yeah sure guys! I'll be able to play on the weekend. Also some Yu practice should be good because Yuut changed from Elizabeth to Yu

EDIT: And it wasn't dumb luck YI-Orange, you're getting better man

I don't know how bad I slowpoked this, but if you guys need an additional player, I can work my way around with Akihiko.

#68 Posted by FluxWaveZ (19305 posts) -

@so_zetta_slow: Sorry, our team's already been made and if any player's unavailable, there are still others to choose from.

#69 Posted by so_zetta_slow (3 posts) -

Figured that after about ten seconds prior to my post, haha. Good luck to you guys.

Go Team GB! Especially Serv and Spark. MAKE CHIE PROUD!

Edit: I just saw the score. Holy Crap Flux is running a train on everyone.

#78 Posted by FLStyle (4532 posts) -

Is there a stream?

#79 Posted by thegoldencat7 (1488 posts) -

@FLStyle:

Here you are.

#80 Posted by Dolphin_Butter (1913 posts) -

You guys missed one of the hypest tournaments ever. Congrats to GameFAQs! :)

#81 Posted by FLStyle (4532 posts) -

That last match was great, I'll have to watch the youtube upload to see the full thing, I'll definitely use this tourney in my next FGC blog. Fun times!

#82 Posted by FluxWaveZ (19305 posts) -

Damn... we lost, Giant Bomb. It came down to the last two members of each team and Tae Song Kim took it against aznjon.

At least that very last match was extremely tense and exciting.

#83 Posted by arkkkkkkk (32 posts) -

That last match was so ****ing hype.

#84 Posted by DarthOrange (3810 posts) -

I missed it :(
Was it streamed or archived somewhere?

Yeah, there were two streams on the front page here with TFP's mentioned on the last page.

I think TFP will upload some videos to Youtube a bit later.

#86 Posted by DarthOrange (3810 posts) -
@FluxWaveZ: ok cool. I'll be on the lookout for any future things, would love to get involved. Maybe PS All-Stars later down the line with teams of 2v2? I don't know how you guys do these events. What is TFP's youtube page?
#87 Edited by FluxWaveZ (19305 posts) -

@DarthOrange: His Youtube page is this: http://www.youtube.com/user/thefakepsychic

He's uploading it now, so it should be there soon enough.

For PS All-Stars, I don't know if our community will be active enough, but we'll see.

Good times Giant Bomb and way to go GameFAQs.

I think in general FAQs probably has more talent per player, but we got the bloody Flux.

#90 Posted by arkkkkkkk (32 posts) -

Good games guys.

Thank you all for participating and keeping the community alive.

#91 Posted by Phatmac (5720 posts) -

Sucks that we lost, but good job Giant Bomb!

#92 Posted by Hadoken101 (698 posts) -

Good Job on the tourney everyone who competed. On the bright side the tournament really inspired me to come back and level up more. I definitely want to try and compete if there is an eventual runback.

Actually, I think it's the opposite. Everyone that went up against Nard was doing better than everyone that went up against Flux. They just have those last two anchors that destroyed us for the most part.

sorry i missed the whole thing but i saw the finals nice job GB
