Playing through Persona 4: Arena with Chie's new voice didn't matter much since it was a fighting game. But now playing through Persona 4: Golden is hard, a world with a new Chie voice is just weird. It looks like her, its saying the right lines, but its just not right.

Chie's new voice
Aha! Is this our chance...
... to have a semi-logical reasoning other than not spending $300 dollars on this? Phew.
THEY CANNOT JUST CHANGE CHIE LIKE THAT.
Edit: Do I really have to clarify this comment? For gods sake. I'm saying they cannot change Chie like that because it would feel wrong hearing someone else make her voice, not that they literally not allowed to change her voice. But I do not understand how this sentiment was lost of all of you people.

YES THEY CAN BECAUSE THE ORIGINAL CHIE RETIRED FROM VOICE ACTING
To be honest. How can you top a career defining performance like that? This new voice is just walking in the shadow of giants.
I can't even tell if she loves steak or not. I just don't feel it.

plus she sounded like a 40 year old woman and not a teenager
It's weird, yeah, but what are you gonna do? And it's noticeably different. Teddy's sounds pretty much exactly the same, which is weird.
I actually think the new Chie sounds a little closer to the Japanese Chie. (from how I recall Yui Horie sounding, anyway...)
It was a little odd to listen to in arena but when I convinced myself she sounded more like Yui Horie I was cool with it.

Not according to this
@Flappy: @JOURN3Y: FUCK THAT
Thanks for saving me like 300 dollars.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go hug my copy of Persona 4.

That is not the old Chie VA.Yes Danielle Judovits is still a VA but Tracy Rooney was Chie.
I prefer original Chie over new Chie, but it's still fine. Has anyone gotten to an "Aha, is this our chance" yet, though? That is the make-or-break moment.
It's a little weird since I'm used to the original Chie's voice (I've watched the Endurance Run enough to ensure that) but I don't dislike it. I'm sure I'll get used to it.
@Hailinel: You just don't get it old man! It's not just the one misread line. It's everything about the old Chie that's great. And I'm assuming the new VA for Golden is the same as the animation. She sounds really cool when she's using a growley tone of voice, but other than that, she just seems way to shrill. That was one of the great things about old Chie. She wasn't shrill. This new Chie is shrill and I wish we still had the old one. But what can you do?

New Chie says it in her voice but with the same pacing to it so all is still good.

@JOURN3Y: Wait did they do all her lines over? Please tell me thats not what you're saying...
Yes, it sounds like they recorded all of her lines again. It's the only one I notice so far.
In memory of old Chie, all the Chie you could ever imagine!
I like Naoto's better. She sounds like she took a trailer full of meth.
Any good Persona 4 Golden clips that show off Chie's voice? Atlus put out one or two where you hear her talking for like 2 seconds.
She was fine in Arena, she was fine in the Anime, and I'm sure she'll be fine here. She's a perfect fit, she sounds like Erica from Catherine (and for a good reason). She still sounds a little bit older, but she sounds... spunkier.
Now they didn't change Naoto's VA for Golden, did they? They changed it for the Anime and it freaks me out, unlike Teddie, I just can't get used to it...

Am I the only person who didn't think she sounded like an old woman? I mean, all kinds of people have all kinds of voices, and her voice matched the character.
btw here is a link to the old voice actor
and the new voice actor

For someone who never played the PS2 version, it fits pretty well for me. It's definitely different from the ER episodes I've watched, but she sounds like a teenager, which is handy because she is a teenager.
It's just something that sticks out strangely if you've spent any amount of time with the original. Having seen ER multiple times and played through the original version three times, it just sounds wrong to me. It's not a bad voice; it's just different.

sounds a little too annoying to me. I think the way the voice actor says things makes it harder for me to relate to the character.
I kinda thought she sounded okay in arena but later when I checked clips from P4G something just felt wrong. Sorry, just feel so odd. It's so high-pitched and... And... Oh well.
R.I.P Chies old voice.
Teddies voice on the other hand sounds almost exactly like the original, wich was actually the voice I were most worried about. =P

totally agree. I think the old voice brought different mannerisms to the character that weren't the same as the japaneese version. the new one is definitely more like the japaneese voice. at least I think so. In saying that yea I was used to the other voice so its a bit weird but anyone who says this breaks the game needs to cool it a bit
I'm only an hour in thus far, but the new actress is doing a decent job of it.
I hate the lisp with a passion - but then, when she says a comedic line it actually delivers better than the old Chie.
It may be a person-to-person thing, but I'm worried I can't relate to the new Chie as much as with the old one, purely for the reason of my not liking people with that type of voice. Delivery barely comes into it.
Also, the mix isn't quite on - everyone else is breathier and sharper on the highs. The new VO sounds a bit muffled - odd, as new lines in the game sound fine, it's just the new Chie that I've noticed the problem with.
ED:
On a related note, Teddy's new voice actor is fantastic. Think the same voice as the other one, but with less effort put in - it's as if the original performer had to stress his voice to "make" Teddy and somehow this time around they just found someone who sounds like what he was aiming for, so it comes off naturally. I do hear the same muffling of the audio as with Chie, however - though I am an audiophile, so it'd only bug similarly crazy people.
I actually think Erin Fitzgerald did a better job in Golden then in Arena. It's still a little weird, but it doesn't bug me as much as it did in Arena. Still miss the old Chie, but the new one is still good. And Teddie's new voice actor has also done a much better job in Golden then Arena from what i've heard so far (up to Yukiko's boss).
I actually think Chie's new voice is pretty good. It took a while to get used to, but she delivers some lines fantastically.
I haven't encountered teddy yet, so I'll reserve judgement on that one.
