Pete Maravich was born in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania. He went to high school in Central, South Carolina and Raleigh, North Carolina. He would later attend Louisiana State University and while in college, set many NCAA records. Over three years he scored 3667 points, averaging over 40 points per game in all three years and without the three-point line. In the NBA he played for the Atlanta Hawks, the New Orleans (and then later the Utah) Jazz, and the Boston Celtics. He injured his leg during the 1977-78 season and after this injury he never was the same. He retired in 1980. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1987. On January 5, 1988 he would die of a heart attack while playing a pick-up game of basketball. He became an Evangelical Christian after his NBA career.
