A trademark weapon in any shooter, the pistol typically serves as a backup when it comes time for the serious firefights. Many games often sell the pistol by noting how much quicker it is to switch to your side arm rather than reload your primary weapon in the event you run out of ammunition. Over the years of shooter evolution the pistol has become quite common, however there have been many variants of the standard pistol that keep the idea unique. For example Halo 3 offers both a standard pistol as well as a plasma pistol which fires energy, rather than bullets at the foe. In most games, pistols are known for being accurate at low to medium range. The pistol is also generally a low powered weapon and generally used as a last resort. However, more and more games are introducing different kinds of pistols with different kinds of fire power. For example in Call of Duty 4, there are many pistol variants with the M9 which is a basic low power pistol to a Desert Eagle which does a considerable amount of damage and can act as a second gun for classes such as snipers. Grand Theft Auto also has to types of pistols. A normal pistol and a Desert Eagle like pistol. Gears of War has 2 types two. Because of this pistols are highly variable depending on the game you are playing.
Dual Pistols
Often in FPS, Dual Pistols are usually a trade in for its singular counterpart, dual pistols allow for more ammo & rapid firing speed over aiming & precision although Dual Pistols are more often 'Badass' e.g Stranglehold, Call Of Juarez: Bound in Blood and Max Payne, in summarizing Dual Pistols are usually a fair trade off for Singular Pistol's.
