So my cousin's PS3 wont read any discs so we decided we were going to take his PS3 apart and clean off the sensor. It was a lot of fun and we used youtube videos to give us tips on how to open the console and when we put it back together it still worked but the PS3 made loud noises if you put a disc in and none of the discs would come out so we had to dissect it again to get my copy of Super Bad out of it. Have you ever opened your PS3?

The PlayStation 3 (often abbreviated PS3) is the third home video game console created and released by Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.
So I dissected a PS3 last night
Correct me if Im wrong but didnt you void the warranty by opening the console up. So now you cant send it to Sony without paying some sort of fee. Its risky business opening up a console without prior experience. I doubt you had any since you needed YouTube videos for help. I do agree that its cool doing stuff like that and I wish I could open my PS3 up, but not at the cost of my warranty. Especially since I had my firs PS3 (Im currently on number 2) die after the first 3 days after purchase!

Did you guys read what he said, his cousin already knew the warranty was up, thats why they opened it up.

"Dood, awesome. Got pictures?Nah! I should have taken some! You can always look on youtube though if your really interested. It was really cool looking and I recommend you do.I'm always interested in dissecting things and rebuilding them. Sounds like some sweet fun!"
Never opened up my PS3, but I had to open up my PS2 to fix the "Unable to Read Disc" error that was popular in many early PS2's. Took me about 3 hours to do what I wanted, following a guide on GameFAQs. It read discs for a few months after that, but then went right back to that same error. In the end, that PS2 died a few weeks later. Had to buy a new one, but it has been working perfectly since.
All in all, I have opened and/or modded a SNES (this one just for cleaning), a NES (pulled the pins in the cartridge reader closer together), Xbox (didn't add any mods. Only opened it because the LAN port was destroyed during a brown out), and a PSP (modded the d-pad and gor rid of dust that had accumulated under the screen).
Semi long post, but I am bored.
"Don't get it fixed! Just buy a toy gun and make the totally awesome and stupid-dangerous blue lazer pointer!"
That made my damn day.

I turned my PS3 into a mech actually. It includes a little Japanese kid inside for those who want to do that mod.
