I got an iPad 2 as a gift over the summer, but between my iPhone 4, Gaming PC, and Macbook Pro I really have not found myself using it all to much other for an occasional random game from the app store. I don't use it to browse or manage e-mails, and after the novelty wore off I just haven't found myself using it that much. I also love Japanese games. I would get 440$ towards the vita which would pay for it as well as the games I want to pick up. I am about to do it, but I want to see if I'm just completely crazy and need a stern talking to. Also I am going to Japan over spring break and it would be cool to have a Vita with me for the long flight.

PlayStation Vita is Sony's second handheld gaming device.
Should I trade in my iPad 2 for a Wi-Fi Vita?
@hwy_61: @chrissedoff: @goatmilk: Did you even read why he is thinking of the trade? On paper it sounds crazy but if he doesn't like/use the iPad than why have it sit around and collect dust?
@msavo: Because even if he doesn't want his iPad any more, the money he'd get for selling it would be better spent on almost anything. No point in trading dust-collecting unused electronics for new dust-collecting unused electronics.

Yeah, even though I'd probably do it, it's not a very good idea. If you're in the mood to make bad decisions, then yeah go for it!

That's the worry. Me brain says no but my heart says yes!
He could totally spend that money on say, his Japan trip! I know the dollar is weak over there, but surely 400-500 dollars is enough for a lot.@msavo: Because even if he doesn't want his iPad any more, the money he'd get for selling it would be better spent on almost anything. If you already have two computers and an Iphone I don't see what you'd need an iPad for. If you can get a good amount of money for then I think you should get rid of it.
I wouldn't but if you really don't use it sure. But think about it carefully, the iPad 2 is worth way more and has more utility, if not at this very second, it might in the future. Either way, good luck with your decision!
The Vita may turn into a failure so you got that, but as an iPad owner I have formed the opinion that the iPad is the most overrated electronic device in history.
I'd much rather have a Vita and a bunch of games than my iPad. Hell I think I talked myself into trading mine in now.

This. If you've got an Iphone then you still have access to most of the iOS games you might play. I say sell it and get that Vita.
If you don't have time for your ipad, what makes you think you'll have time for a vita? Sell the ipad and save the money.
someone gave it to you as a gift. wow your really lucky to get such expensive gifts. seems a bit ungrateful to just go swap it.
When I first read the topic I though, "That is crazy!" but after I read his reasoning I thought, "Oh, this makes sense."
Then I started thinking about my iPad and... well...

This.
Don't know that I'll actually go and trade mine in, but it did plant the thought. I moved my PC into the living room and hooked it up to the TV, as a result I just don't use my iPad as much as I once did.
@Czarpyotr: It sounds like you don't use your iPad much, so I think you should prob trade it in for a Vita, but not YET. The Vita is likely to see a price drop soon, and the launch titles don't even look that hot. Why bother getting one now ? Also, pawning off a gift ? That's a little douchey.

I doubt you'll see a price drop before the holidays, they might drop it like $20-$30 for the Christmas season, but Sony has never struck me as the kind of company to slash prices after a few months because of low initial sales in an already slow sales window. PSP was introduced at the same price point and if memory serves me, it stayed at the $250/$300 for quite a while.
I get people wanting the Vita to be cheaper, we want everything cheaper, but honestly, for what it's packing, it offers a lot more than than 90% of the smart phones out there that cost 2-3 times more than a Vita unless you buy into some contract.
"It's too expensive for what you get, but this iPhone 4 for $600, that's totally reasonable!"
@Krakn3Dfx: The vast majority of smartphones are bought with a contract, and last time I checked a Vita couldn't make calls or receive texts. Totally not comparable.

Agreed. Not comparable, since you're locked into a contract that includes a data plan that you have to pay for on a monthly basis for two years and will still result in more than $250 + your choice in memory.
OP: Seems like people are only reading the title of your post and not the post itself. If you're not using your iPad 2 and don't plan to, go ahead and sell it. Buying a Vita with that money depends on if there are games either from the PSP lineup or in the pipeline for the Vita that you'd actually want to play. Disregard the snarky, Apple fanboy comments.
It sounds like you totally aren't using the iPad. So, sell that shit. Do so quickly, as the market will be absolutely flooded with people trying to get rid of their iPad 2 that they're probably still paying off to get the iPad 3, or whatever it'll be called when it gets announced in ~ 2 weeks. The silly high resolution on the new iPad makes me kind of want one. Until I come to my iTunes loathing senses and say, "Meh."
Also, unless there's a launch Vita game you -really- want, I'd wait for the Vita to drop in price or for a "must have, this is worth $350-$400" title. Drop that cash in the bank and just sit on it. The Vita's aren't going anywhere. As much as Sony would like you to think, there's no Vita shortage.
@Masha2932: Agreed.

Yet they still sell infinitely more than portable gaming devices, Vita included.
