I played through the entire first one and loved the play through, but thought it was kind of boring when I tried playing it again the second time. So my question is, is Portal 2 any different from the first
Is Portal 2 worth getting?
Portal 2 is more elaborate, much longer and much more well written than the first. Like the first, it doesn't really have replayability. So what? Amazing experiences are worth money just as much as something that you can go back to. If you factor in the co-op campaign it's about 4 times the length of the original. Allegedly.
I felt it dragged on. I played Portal 1 a few weeks before P2 came out, and I felt P2 should have been more. Many people praise the narrative and plot in P2, but I don't' understand why. Its almost as barren as P1. The puzzles are defiantly more fun, but aside from that aspect it was pretty boring for me.
If you're asking about the replayability then I would say they are about the same, only Portal 2 is longer and has a co-op campaign.
It's a really good experience though, and I personally always enjoy the developers commentary in Valve games for a second playthrough.
So I say it's well worth it, but if you're really not sure you could wait for a Steam sale.
Its a step forward in terms of writing, voice performances and character animation that needs to be experienced. Coupled with the fact that its a pretty god damn clever puzzler to boot and there's always that Co-op if you're into that. So yes, yes it is.
If you're not going to play the co-op, don't pay full price. I got the game for $40 from Gamestop on special, and since I only played the single-player part, still felt a bit ripped off by the price. It's a good game, but the replay value is pretty low. I don't think they filled out the game enough to justify full price. It also has the problem of--in my opinion--being a hell of a lot easier than the first game, despite all the new mechanics. The first game had me scratching my head a few times, but Portal 2 never threw anything at me that slowed me down at all.
Don't get me wrong: it's worth playing. But I still think the game's not really worth more than $30.
Yes, yes, yes and ... yes. It's worth getting, and an awesome game. It still is a puzzle game so multiple playthroughs are probably not something you will get out of it (I finished it twice though). But it's a little unfair to fault a puzzle game for being a puzzle game.
And there is the seperate coop. Since we are talking about valve here its pretty safe to assume we will get (free) additional coop maps in regular intervals.
I loved this game but i don't think it's worth $60. Forty Dollars is the perfect price for this title. Why not, if you play co-op you'll get at least 10 hours out of it.
10 quality hours, which is more than I can say for a lot of games released at $60.
and well I didn't even pay $60 as I got it on PC, so it made it even more worth the money.
