Looking back at 2007

I have had so much fun looking back at the recent gaming years so I decided to keep going and look back at the best and most memorable games for me in 2007. As always the list is my opinion but I love all feedback but here is my pick for the best games in 2007!

List items

  • I don't know what it is about Uncharted: Drake's Fortune but this game is in my opinion one of the best games of all time. I wasn't this huge gamer that I am today when Uncharted came out and there weren't alot of good games out for the PS3 and without knowing alot about the game I bought it day one. This game made me the huge hardcore gamer that I am today. It sucked me in with it's amazing graphics, fantastic gameplay, tight control and pretty interesting story. Although it's sequels have improved upon this first game, I have to admit that Uncharted: Drake's Fortune holds a special place in my nerdy heart. And since I am not a big multiplayer guy it didn't bother me at all that this game is single player only. I have played through Uncharted: Drake's Fortune around 10 times and I will probably beat it more often in the future, and is my pick for the best game of 2007!

  • I love Super Mario games in 2D, I have played the 2D games way too much. I also had alot of fun with Mario 64 but not as much as the 2D games did. So I underestimated the power of Wii and didn't pick it up until the summer of 2011. The first game I played on my Wii was Super Mario Galaxy. Super Mario Galaxy is one of the best games of all time and boy did I feel bad for looking down on the Wii when I played it. I was so amazed with Galaxy and the sheer amount of fun that I had while playing it is astonishing! I didn't let the game go until I had completed it 100%. And then I bought its sequel which is also breathtaking. Super Mario Galaxy is the best 3D platformer there is (along with its sequel) and alone justifies buying a Wii, Galaxy will blow your mind away!

  • I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I started playing Portal. I knew nothing about the game but a friend of mine really pushed my into trying it out. I was speechless when I got through the first couple of challenges. Portal is probably the most clever game ever to be released. It's so much fun, and did I say it was clever already? Simply put I couldn't stop playing the game and finished it in one sitting. My friend who wanted me to play it watched me the whole time and just enjoyed watching me trying to figure the game out and finally conquering it. Portal is a game every gamer has to play, it's that simple!

  • I had never really played the Guitar Hero series when I got to play Rock Band and it blew my mind. It was so much fun playing some great rock songs on a plastic instrument along with my friends and just having fun. If I only knew how many hours I have sunk into Rock Band, countless parties playing with friends, or playing alone trying to unlock more songs or to improve on the more difficult songs. Rock Band is one of the games that will pop up when we look back at this generation of video games. You can say what you want about the music game genre but you have to give the original Rock Band the credit it deserves.

  • The first God of War was groundbreaking and like most gamers know one of the best games of the last generations of consoles. So the pressure was on before the launch of God of War II but somehow it surpassed the original in every possible way. Great gameplay, amazing visuals for the PS2 and epic story makes God of War II probably the best game for the impressive PlayStation 2. And it was just great to experience the game again when it was re-released in HD graphics for the PS3. Maybe the game would have been better if it would have been made for the PS3 but it was great to see the PS2 go out with a bang with this epic crazy game

  • When I finally picked up BioShock I couldn't believe that the game could stand up to all of the hype that I had created in my mind. After having heard people raving about BioShock for years I finally picked it up and this game is just wonderfull. Of course the biggest factor is the setting and the atmosphere. Rapture will get to you and this great take on first person shooter genre is just great. Mixing the combat with both guns and by modifying your body is very interesting. With BioShock Ken Levine really prooved that he is one of the best in the business in video games.

  • I don't play RPG's simply put! So I knew I wouldn't play Folklore but somehow after hearing from so many gamers that Folklore was a true gem I decided to pick it up. There is something to Folklore that just grasps me and doesn't let me go. I love the games atmosphere and it's amazing soundtrack, you'll definitely will get sucked into this game if you give it a go. The gameplay is pretty good and it's really funny that I have fallen for a RPG game! I often listen to the beautifull theme song of the game when I want to relax, it's that good!

  • If you are looking for a small simple game that will steal countless hours from your life look no further then Super Stardust HD. This breathtaking twin stick shooter will get you hooked if you try it. Fantastic visuals, extremely tight and responsive controls and crazy gameplay is going to get to you. I absolutely adore Super Stardust HD and of course was one of the first game I purchased on the PSN and for a good reason. Extremely easy to pick up and play but difficult to master is 100% correct for this small game. Just play it!

  • I had never played a Ratchet game before I played Tools of Destruction so I was amazed when I finally got to play a game in the series. The graphics were just like a Pixar movie and the gameplay extremely tight. And the weapon variety is of course simply amazing. How the people at Insomniac get some of their ideas amazes me. There is a reason why the Ratchet and Clank series is as popular like it is and Tools of Destruction is a fantastic way to experience what all the fuzz is about. Don't miss out on one of the best 3D action platformers!

  • I am a huge Resident Evil fan, especially the first ones when they were actually about surviving the horror that the games threw at you. The Umbrella Chronicles relives some of the best bits of the first games through on rails first person shooter gameplay which oddly enough really works. As a big Resident Evil fanatic having problems with the way that the series is heading it's really good to see Capcom giving us some fanservice with Umbrella Chronicles. One of the must have Wii titles and it's great to see the game getting a re-release for the PlayStation Move which I will definitely pick up.

  • I love WW2 shooters so I had my doubts about CoD4 going into the modern era but boy was I wrong! This game single handedly lifted the first person shooter genre to the heights that it is in today and with a good reason. Very smooth controls, fantastic visuals and so on just builds up to make this incredibly well crafted game one of the best games of this generation. If I were a bigger first person shooter fanatic this game would have ended up much higher on my list that's for sure!

  • The first MotorStorm was under huge pressure before it's release and few games have had such hype behind it like MotorStorm. All the hype aside I really liked this game, and it's visuals were damn impressive back in 2007. It was very light on content but that's often the case with launch games. Still today I like popping this game in my PS3 and enjoy the fast action paced dirt racing, of all the MotorStorm games today I think I love the setting in the first game the most although Apocalypse is also fantastic in it's city form.

  • I really love the Max Payne series but in 2007 I had waited 4 years since the last Max Payne game. So when I heard about Stranglehold I was very excited. The game is a Max Payne rip-off but does include some new ideas that really expand the slow motion formula. I really liked Stranglehold and helped me through the wait for a new entry in the Max Payne series. I also enjoyed how much the game lets the player try out new things. With destructible environments and clever ways to defeat your foes Stranglehold is certainly a gem!

  • I really love games from Rockstar Games, in my opinion they haven't released a bad game, but Manhunt 2 is probably the worst game in their record book. The original Manhunt was pretty interesting and did something new, but was very controversial because of it's gore. Manhunt 2 had a long and a difficult way before it finally got released because there were alot of people that didn't want to see the things that the Manhunt series is known for. And in the end Manhunt 2 was so cencored that it actually ruined alot for the game. Don't get me wrong, Manhunt 2 is a good game but the original game is just better, so play the first one instead if you haven't tried out this series which probably died after the second game.

  • I play video games to have fun, and fun is always to be had when you pop in WarioWare: Smooth Moves. The game with it's crazy mini games where you have to understand what to do and make it happen in just a few seconds is just amazing fun. Smooth Moves also uses the Wii-mote in so many different ways that you really have to give the developers some respect coming up with all of their ideas. WarioWare: Smooth Moves is a must have for every Wii owner, simply put!

  • The FIFA series had some serious problems in the recent years when it came to FIFA 08, which was the first one for the PS3. So it was just great to see EA Sports build it's biggest series again from scratches with FIFA 08. Although it wasn't perfect, FIFA 08 was an amazing entry for the series and revolutionized the football video games. Following FIFA games have just made some improvements on the core formula FIFA 08 introduced and that says alot. Extremely important game for this generation of video games.

  • Super Mario is always great in 2D so I was very excited to hear about Super Paper Mario, and the fact that it would be a platformer since I love that genre. Also the idea of changing between having the game in 2D and 3D was a very interesting idea. But having played the game today I have to admit that the game let me down. The game is pretty slow and when you flip into 3D the game is just blend and boring. I would love to see Nintendo do a sequel since this is a great idea but just didn't done well enough.

  • I played the original Unreal Tournament alot back in the days but haven't played the newer titles. But I decided to give Unreal Tournament 3 a go and it's a solid game. Sometimes I felt very nostalgic playing the game and the game is definitely an Unreal Tournament game with it's fast action and need for quick reaction. But although it's a solid game the game didn't grasp me the same way the original did, and I stopped playing much sooner than I thought I would.

  • In my earlier years I loved the Simpsons and although today I have replaced the Simpsons with Family Guy and South Park I have fond memories for the family. The Simpsons Game is a love letter to everyone who has at one time loved the Simpsons and of course if you like platformers. The game definitely has it's problems but it makes up for alot of them with good humour and the feeling that you're actually in Springfield in all of it's glory when the game shines.

  • The first Assassin's Creed game was very mixed for me. It was unbelievable in the beginning but became very repetitive quickly. And after seeing how Ubisoft have improved upon the game in the later entrys it's like the first Assassin's Creed is just a tech demo. But nevertheless this game was a very important release in 2007 and started this huge series of games.
