I guess it's sunk cost. No need to torture myself over what are effectively phantasms.

Gameboy Advance: What are my options?

How Game Boy Advances were born (although if you get GBAs wet, they just die).
How Game Boy Advances were born (although if you get GBAs wet, they just die).
This is a call on those in the know to help out some random person on the internet.

Let's say I live in [Europe] and let's say that I have a ton of old Game Boy Advance games I'd like to start playing again.  What are my options?

Since the new DS doesn't have a GBA port, I would have to buy one of the older DS systems to play the GBA games.

A while back I had a Gamecube, with a GBA adapter that I used to play GBA games on the big screen.  Anyone think the Wii will have such an adapter some day in the future? Because that's another possibility.

The Game Boy Advance itself is pretty hard to find, I imagine, but does anyone know if that's still a viable option?  Or are most GBAs junk now?  Which is better, the older one or the flip-top one?

Can the DS itself be played by plugging it into the wall, or do you have to play using the batteries?  I have no idea, since I've never actually owned a portable console before.

Finally, anyone have any hardware they want to unload?

(an aside: try entering the game boy advance in the subject tags section and see how far you get).

Dude, consider getting a GB Micro. It's awesome and cheap now, and easily attainable.

Other than the DSi, the DS will play any Gameboy Advance game.

If you want to play them on the television, then you will need to buy a cheap Gamecube and a Gameboy Player.  It is extremely unlikely that the Wii will ever play Gameboy Advance games.

The DS has a rechargeable battery that lasts many hours and can be played whilst plugged in for a recharge.

If you want a Gameboy Advance, then try eBay and only get an SP, the flip top one - better light on the screen.  The micro is cool, but the screen is quite small.  I liked them, but not as a main unit.

Hope that helps.

Connected to a lanyard, it truly was portable.  My daughters used to take them to school.  Excellent quality screen.

I used to take mine away with me a lot.  They are so small, we have lost one in our house and not expecting to ever find it again.

Go for the Micro, it was the latest version of the gameboy advance, when it was released it was dirt cheap. Last time i saw one they where asking 20 euros for it and it had a game packed in with it.

Just make sure you do NOT get one of the original non-clamshell ones. The lighting is junk and it is really hard to see.

The Micro has improved brightness as well as the same number of pixels, only smaller. It all works to great effect. GBA games look fantastic on it.

There are also link cables as well as a wireless adapter available, yes a wireless adapter. It's only available in Japan though (rare) . I only have the link cables myself, - 4 player & 2

My preliminary search for Micros has come up negative in my area (which has a rather narrow market), but I'll add it to my list of possibilities.  I'm still open to others' ideas, too.  Thanks everyone.

Except the 360 comment, unless that was some sort of satirical jab at people's obsessions with their own consoles.

@oldschool: I'm curious if you ever found that Micro again. Mine seems to have a power source problem now, cuts out randomly. Have to find another GBA player of some sort to play these old carts...
